In October, our thoughts turn to real food, sturdy root veg, robust soups and warming casseroles.

We add a spoonful of pep with our homemade chutneys...a zing of chilli and a rich undertone of flavoursome depth.

Autumn light, full hedgerows, crumble. It is a simple, seasonal treat but utterly worth heading outside for.

In Somerset we call it 'scrumping'-pinching an apple from an obliging tree and a bowl full of brambles to cook into a rich, hot, comforting pudding-with custard, obviously! We stir in a few spoonfuls of our own WesternWind award winning preserves for a jammy surprise under a crunchy oat topping.
