Oak Mead Cafe and Golf Course Oak Mead has been planned from the very start as a family attraction and opened for all to enjoy in Summer 2003. The course is a 9 hole par 3 and 748 yards

Opened on May 1st 2006 by District Councillor Mike Green, the Cafe offers a warm welcome and somewhere to relax with a range of coffees, teas and cold drinks together with a tempting selection of cakes, pasties, toasted sandwiches, breakfasts, sandwiches and light snacks, and our guests favourite the Devonshire cream teas (in the summer season). Open daily from 9.00am during busy periods. The Coffee Shop is a pet and smoke free area.

🌿 A Blooming Marvellous Day with David Bellamy! 🌿

Back in 2004, sustainability wasn't the buzzword it is today — but for the Franks family at Oakdown, caring for the land was already a way of life.

On 23rd June 2004, the late Professor David Bellamy visited Oakdown to officially open Oak Mead Golf Course.

Representatives from HARPA (then known as BH&HPA) arrived by helicopter, landing right on the course, before David drove in to declare it open. It was a truly blooming marvellous day. 🌿

The Franks family's commitment to conservation stretches back even further. Since 1996, we have proudly supported the David Bellamy Conservation Awards every year without fail.

Over the past 30 years, that partnership has reflected a long-standing commitment to protecting the countryside and encouraging wildlife to thrive.

Rufus Bellamy, son of Professor David Bellamy, said:
"On his many visits, David enjoyed walking through the wonderful wildflower areas, spotting interesting species and sharing stories with the family. Oakdown's achievements serve as a first-class illustration of how a caring and responsible business can work hand-in-hand with nature."

Alastair Franks added:
"David was a true pioneer who helped raise awareness of sustainability and conservation long before they became part of the mainstream conversation. We were immensely proud to be recognised by David then and we remain proud today."

We are proud to have held the David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award for 30 years. It's a milestone that reflects the values the Franks family has championed for decades — caring for the land, supporting wildlife and ensuring Oakdown remains a special place for generations to come. 🌱

Back in 1996 something special happened at Oakdown.

David Bellamy himself flew down to Devon to present our first Conservation Award and to meet Alastair and his parents. The signed report he sent still takes pride of place to this day.

Thirty years on we're proud to still hold his award. The same care for our hedgerows, wildlife and quiet corners that earned it back then runs through everything we do now.

There’s something really special about the early mornings and late evenings here at Oakdown Holiday Park 🌿

When everything goes quiet that’s often when the wildlife comes to life… from our beautiful badgers wandering through the woodland to deer appearing in the distance and so many wonderful birds around the park 🦌🦡🕊️
