Yesterday, The Sunflower turned ONE! 🌻
I’m feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.
A year ago, I took a gamble with the couple of grand I had in my savings and decided to try and build a business from it. I had one month to transform a café, create a brand, build a menu and figure out what the hell I was doing, having never run, never mind owned, a hospitality business before. 😂
This time last year, me and my family stayed up ALL night getting everything ready for opening day. Painting, decorating, baking and making coleslaw at 4am, before going straight into what turned out to be a crazy busy first day. I was delirious, absolutely terrified and stressed to hell, with a few tears and a meltdown to my best friend along the way 😂😭 But we made it through.
Fast forward a year and I genuinely don’t think I’ve had a second to stop and take it all in.
I ran the show on my own for a good few months, and now I have the most fabulous team of girls behind me. I’ve made so many friends, met some truly incredible people and had experiences I never could have imagined when I first took those keys.
I am SO grateful to everyone who has supported us, recommended us, brought their friends and family through our doors, been patient when we’re rushed off our feet and kept coming back when it was just me behind the counter looking like I was about to have a breakdown 😂.
And of course, to my AMAZING family, especially my mum and dad, who continue to be such a huge part of The Sunflower every single day. A lot of you will know my dad from his daily coffee and chats with the regulars, or from being roped into washing up when we’re absolutely rammed 😂. My mum is just as much a part of it behind the scenes, from opening and closing with me to all the countless things they do that people don’t see. I genuinely couldn’t do this without them. ❤️
I started The Sunflower with a couple of grand, a lot of determination and absolutely no idea what I was doing. One year later, I have so much more than a business to show for it.
Here’s to the first year of The Sunflower, and hopefully many, many more. 🌻
