Due to flooding in Bangkok we’ve struggled to get Thai vegetables this week. However….we managed to grab the last of the Thai eggplant from one shop, got enough kaffir lime leaf from last week, got enough Thai basil from the garden (last lot for sure!) but will have to use frozen Kra Pow this week I’m afraid!

Video from my friend who went on holiday for 3 days… then spent another 3 in the airport trying to get home!

A reminder we are closed next weekend (7th - 14th October) so get your Thai fix this weekend!

Let’s talk names (part 2)

I’m Rob. Or is it Robbie? Robert?

Growing up round here I was always Robbie. Through Coldfair Green, Leiston Middle and Thomas Mills it was the only name people used for me.

When I left Suffolk at 18 for Belfast I made an effort to become Rob. It felt more ‘grown up’. But I forgot with so people so for 6 years a was a mixture of Rob, Robbie or sometimes just called ‘English’ 🤣

Then on to Bangkok where I became ‘Ajarn’ which means Teacher/Professor. When I moved to the countryside I became ‘Teacher Robert’ and this is what most people in Thailand know me as. Or simply’Teacher’.

Then somewhere along the way I picked up a Thai nickname ‘Platong’ which means Goldfish. Aof’s family mostly call me this 🏅🐟

So if you thought Aof’s name was complicated…. I’m just as bad lol 😝 Can’t wait to become Bob!

I mostly introduce myself as Rob or Robbie but I’ll answer to any of the above 🤣🤣🤣

Our winter 26/27 menu. This will be our menu until Easter 2027.

We’ve added Thai Style Sweet and Sour after the success of our lunchtime special. It’s delicious! It can also be made vegan 🌱

We can now do a Gluten Free Green curry and we can add Tofu with the Vegan Panang. Please note GF curries and the vegan panang need to be ordered the day before so we can make/prep it fresh each morning. We can add tofu to any dish but again we will need a 24 hours' notice.

We are still waiting for the pumpkins to ripen. Pumpkin will be on as a special rather than on the full menu as we’ve only got a few this year.

We have finally got round to planning some specials in the evening. We’re thinking about Thursdays in particular. Crispy Pork and Massaman are on the list! More details to follow.

I’ve slightly amended the opening hours 11:30 -15:30 lunch and closing 20:30 in the evening, however we will happily go until 21.00 on Friday and Saturday if people order late. It just gives us a little leeway to get home early if the weather is bad or there’s nobody about.

We will close on the 7th - 14th October as we are away for our daughters dance competition. This is the 3rd week of our annual leave. We will also close Christmas week. We do however intend to open 29th - 31st December if there’s demand!

4 orders in before 9am this morning! Love it!

No spring rolls today (we have enough for all preorders so far) . We are having a pre-planned break from spring rolls for a week or so. We need to get caught up with stock after a few hectic weeks. Plenty of satay and other starters to try though!

This is Thai Eggplant (มะเขือ) which goes in Green curry. Green curry often comes with an array of random vegetables but for Aof, she likes to be as close to what she eats herself. In her green curry has Thai Eggplant, Bamboo, Kafir Lime leaf, Thai sweet basil (โหระพา) and fresh chilli. Then add your protein.

That’s it.

A massive thank you to Benhall Village Social Club for hosting our first pop-up of the year last week. It’s brilliant to watch people enjoying the food and getting to try many different dishes. We have a couple of private pop-ups before Christmas but also a public event to be announced soon!
