We’ve been saving this until end of today as it’s been a very busy weekend!!

I’m delighted to share that we’ve been nominated for Food Vendor of the Year 2026 by the Norfolk and Suffolk Food and Drink Awards Awards

This a huge for us, a tiny little food truck tucked round the corner here in Saxmundham. I am so incredibly proud of Aof, she works so hard and she deserves this! ❤️

We don’t expect to win but are certainly going to enjoy the night out 🥂🍾🍺🍻Just to reach the top 3 is such an achievement. Final is on 14th of September in Norwich

So this happened on July 1st.

It’s rubbish. Really rubbish.

It became clear around March that we this was going to be an issue. Our choice’s were to either switch to day time only, close for a few months, or push on and just pay the VAT. Aof made the final call… we have too many people who enjoy our food to change up or close for an extended period.

What does this mean for you? For now…nothing. We will pay the first 3 months VAT from our own pocket. You will also see our portions haven’t got smaller. The quality of food produced has not dropped. But in September, when we have our planned new Autumn menu, we simply have to increase the prices. The increase will be LESS than the VAT we pay.

We are working hard to keep this increase as low as possible. To do this we are doing the following -

Smarter shopping (checking and comparing prices to get the cheapest deals)

Better waste management - if we have 8 portions of green curry left on Saturday morning we will aim to sell out rather than make more and risk it getting thrown out.

Remaining just the 2 of us - despite being busy we aren’t interested in expanding too quickly or employing anyone.

Subsidising the business - I have a second job that brings in enough for us to be able to make less than we should at the Thai. It’s a long term project that I believe will be more profitable in the future.

If you go on industry standards on pricing, a lot of our dishes are way under what we should/could be charging. We believe it’s a premium product, with generous portions, exceptional flavours and expensive imported ingredients. But we must must MUST remain accessible and affordable to all. We do not want to become an exclusive or overly expensive brand…

We will battle to keep our prices as low as possible but a small increase in September will be essential.

I’m now going to spend Sunday morning doing my accounts! Hurray!! 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣

Aof will be open 11 - 2 today for lunch today. We are closing early as we are heading to aldeburgh to see our kids in the carnival.

At The Thai Saxmundham we are always looking for ways to improve our customer service. (We had two regular customers in last night that did this last year)

Introducing the ‘do I have time for a quick pint’ concept by Rob for the discreet lady or gentleman who fancy a quick drink without getting questions from home.

How it works - you must arrive 10 minutes early. This is important. Ask us how we are getting on and gaze longingly at the beer garden next to us. Make a quick hand gesture imitating drinking a beer and give me a quick nod. I will then inform you we are ‘running 10 minutes late’. (Please note we are not 10 minutes late but I’ll keep the order in the hot bag for you)

You now have 20 minutes to try one of the many lovely establishments in Saxmundham!
