"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. 🎀

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. 💗

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

💗 This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.💕

The Tickled Pink awareness posters displayed in our St Leonards-on-Sea store played a huge part in our colleague Donna's decision to check herself – and when she did she found a small lump in her breast which turned out to be cancerous.

Seeing those reminders every day helped her to recognise what to look out for and encouraged her to take action. In August last year Donna, who's 46, found a tiny lump, less than a centimetre, just under her ni**le. At first, she thought it might be a harmless cyst, something that would disappear on its own, but after a few days it remained so, with a gentle nudge from her partner, John, she made the decision to visit her GP. A mammogram and biopsies were carried out, and within three weeks she found out she had Stage 1 breast cancer. In October, she underwent a full mastectomy, along with the removal of four lymph nodes under her arm, and then started chemotherapy. She's since made a great recovery and has returned to work.

Donna said: "My mum had breast cancer at about the same age as me so I was kind of aware, but I'm one those people who think everything's okay and never go to a doctor. I see all the Tickled Pink stuff at work every day. The posters are everywhere, even the toilets. You can't miss them. Their message worked as it made me very aware, and so I thought I'd better check myself. I'd like to think that a lot of our customers are seeing the messages too and checking themselves. The earlier you catch things, the easier it is to deal with it. Thankfully I caught mine early, so it was relatively easy to get rid of.

"Tickled Pink is a great charity and it's brilliant in raising awareness. I've always supported Tickled Pink in the store and worn the T shirts, we all do here. Our community champion Wendy always makes sure we are up for it."

What an incredible Tickled Pink Big Weekend! 💕🎀We set ourselves the challenge of cycling 30 miles to celebrate Tickled Pink's 30th birthday. 🚴‍♀️💗We smashed our target and cycled an amazing 90 miles. A massive shout-out to our incredible volunteer Audrey, who cycled a whopping 60 miles all by herself! Audrey volunteers through Breast Cancer Now after beating breast cancer herself. What an inspiration she is!We also had a fantastic tombola, with over 70 prizes won, and our Pick a Lollipop game, where lucky customers won prizes by finding the pink or golden stick. But what really touched me the most was the number of people who stopped to donate simply because they, or someone they love, have been affected by breast cancer. Hearing their stories and seeing how much this cause means to so many people was incredibly moving. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing customers, the dedication of our fantastic colleagues and the support of our wonderful volunteers, we have raised over £400 for Tickled Pink! Thank you to everyone who donated, took part, cheered us on and supported us throughout the weekend. You are all amazing! - Gemma, Asda community champion

A huge thank you to our amazing customers at Asda Rugby! Today, I sent off 8 totes full of children's books to the Children's Book Project, all generously donated by our community.

After 17 years of loyal service (yes, he’s been here since day one!), the legend that is Steve is hanging up his boots and heading into retirement.

After a heart operation at the end of last year, he's decided it’s time to take things a little easier – and honestly, he’s more than earned it.

Steve, thanks for all the hard work, laughs, and everything in between over the years. You’ll be greatly missed, but we wish you a relaxing, happy, and well-deserved retirement!
