Art at the Alex

Art at the Alex 'The Alex' (Rugby) is an independent, licensed arts centre with exhibits, events and artist's studio on site. Quirky place to spend time. All art is local art!

Art at the Alex is a venue for artists to work and meet and a licensed cafe which their works adorn. Studios to resident artists Steve Davies (IG: stevedavise1st) and Chris Pegler (IG: peglerpurl) this aims to be a hub for local artists and makers. The Alex was formerly the Alexandra Tavern (and previously the Alexandra Arms). It has a lovely garden and space where the brewery was and these spaces provide great areas to hold extra events. Which it plans to do most weekends through the year.

THE MAP IS THE STORY (Charles Lines)
Based on the work by Charles to develop a town trail that did not rely on regular maps. The image below was from the Spring Maddness leaflet used to publicise the work of Rugby Yarn Bombers. Its an intriguing way to look at the The Rugby Town a bit differently. FREE EVENT and no need to book but let us know if you are coming/interested.

Friday 23rd October
Talk 11.30-12.15
First part of at
No need to book but do arrive promptly to get a seat.

What happens when a map stops being a guide and becomes part of the adventure itself? This talk explores the creation of a comic trail map that reimagined the traditional event map as an illustrated story. Rather than following roads and symbols on a page, participants navigated by recognising landm...

Shawl achieved! Our challenge for did indeed result in a shawl. 🎉

It wasn't the woven version planned as there were so many interested visitors that we didn't get the loom warped - can't complain really! It was great to have people interested and sometimes having a go. But a woven version should follow...

Open today 11-4 for the last day of the sheep to shawl challenge for Heritage Open Days 2026. Come and visit the studio holders ( Edwards of BAECeramics, Jenny Ball I. Ditherella's Workshop and Steve Davies alternating between serving cake and print making! Chris Pegler has enough handspun for the shawl weaving today. it's just had its final when it's and is basking in the sun. Thank you to spinners Dani, Krys, Angela, Chris and Abby. Could not have done it without the help of Gemma and Hilary in making batts. The weaving shift is Jane Harrisson and Sue Byrne. (it takes a lot of spinners to make enough for one weaver!) Picture of Blue Texel sheep shows the sort of sheep we started with.
