Please read if you bring your dog to the pub.
Many of you know Archie our 19 year old cat. He has recently decided that downstairs is very much his local, and he now appears regularly to say hello to everyone.
Yesterday, he had a VERY near miss with a dog. It was awful and we cannot risk it happening again.
This post isn’t intended to offend, to risk trade, hurt long standing friendships or anything like that: it’s simply to say we need a safe environment for our animals and, let’s be honest here, our staff and all customers young, old & in the middle! Too often dogs get under feet and it can be difficult to deal with at times.
So, from today, all dogs in the pub must be kept on a lead at all times, and that lead must be secured to a person, to one of the hooks on the bar, around a chair leg, or around a table leg.
No dog may free-roam in the pub. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule at any time. None.
Regardless of how ‘cat friendly’ one thinks their dog is, regardless of how many times a dog has sat nicely in here, EVERY dog now needs to be tethered as we will not risk Archibald’s life.
Archie is deaf and, at 19, he isn’t as quick or as aware of danger as he once was. This is his home, and we have a responsibility to keep him safe.
We love welcoming dogs to the pub and very much want that to continue. Crikey we even bake some birthday cakes! We simply ask EVERY dog owner to respect this rule and help us make sure that our lovely old boy can continue to potter downstairs, say hello to his friends and enjoy his local safely.
Thank you for understanding — and for helping us look after Archibald . ❤️
