Dear Friends,
Adda Hut was born out of a longing for home and a passion for the flavours we grew up with. As Gen Xers who missed the iconic street food of Kolkata, we found that even the finest Indian restaurants couldn’t satisfy our craving for true authenticity. The standards were high—Biryani had to be Arsalanesque, complete with that perfectly squishable potato; Fish fry had to match the crunch of Mitra Café; Egg rolls needed to echo Bedwin’s magic; Mishti Doi had to be as delicate as Balaram Basak’s; and Chicken Chaap needed to have the same texture as Aminia’s. The list was endless!
And that led us to this quest for authenticity from a small kitchen in Reading to get close to our nostalgic cuisine from Kolkata. Diversifying with fusion food and run of the mill ‘Bhuna and Madras was not an option as it would have meant a dilution of ethics. It was the summer of 2021.
And that’s when you joined us. From every corner of the UK and beyond, you came, you ate, and you turned our dream into something real. The adda, the laughter, the satisfied smiles at the end of each meal—those moments have been priceless.
But now, like any good story, ours needs a brief intermission. It’s time for us to take a break, to step back and prepare for something even bigger and better. Rest assured, we will return with the same passion and dedication in our quest for culinary perfection.
