❤️ END OF AN ERA – GOODBYE TO THE NAVAL SOCIAL CLUB ❤️
1966–2026. 60 years of memories, laughter, friendship and community.
Today, we say a sad farewell to a place that has been at the heart of Sandfields Estate, Aberavon, Port Talbot and beyond for generations.
The Naval Social Club was never just a building. It was part of our lives, part of our history, and part of what made this community so special.
For 60 years, those walls have witnessed so much. The Saturday night dances, the bingo nights, the packed dance floors, the countless bands and entertainers who took to the stage. And the st*****rs on a Sunday morning. The football, rugby, pool, darts and skittles teams who called it home.
Friendships were made, romances blossomed, and many people met the person they would go on to spend their lives with. Families celebrated weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. Generations grew up knowing the Naval Club as somewhere they belonged.
It wasn't just a social club. It was the heartbeat of a community.
For us at the Pop In Cafe, this farewell feels particularly personal.
Our little cafe originally started life as the bookmakers to the club, and for all these years the Naval has stood proudly beside us. Like a big brother, it's sheltered us from the wind and weather blowing in off the sea, watching over us as the years and generations passed by.
It's going to feel very strange opening up the cafe each morning and looking across at an empty space where such a huge part of our community once stood.
The building may now be gone, but you can't demolish 60 years of memories.
You can't knock down the friendships that were made, the laughter that filled those rooms, the songs that were sung, or the love stories that began on that dance floor.
Those memories will live on in the hearts of everyone who ever walked through its doors.
To everyone who worked there, played there, performed there, celebrated there or simply enjoyed a pint and a chat with friends — you were all part of something special.
As the last of the Naval Social Club disappears, we aren't just losing bricks and mortar. We're saying goodbye to a piece of Sandfields' history that can never be replaced.
From all of us at the Pop In Cafe, thank you for the memories, Naval. ❤️

💔 Absolutely gutted and disappointed this morning!
Opened up Pop In Cafe to find our windows smashed, apparently by someone using an air r***e.
For over 50 years, the cafe has served our local community, I've been here 21 years keeping our prices as low as possible so everyone can afford a decent meal and a friendly welcome.
We're a small local business trying to make an honest living, and now I'll be working this week just to pay for replacement glass. 😔
Just because the Naval Social Club next door is being demolished doesn't mean the cafe is going anywhere!
WE'RE HERE TO STAY! ❤️
📹 Our CCTV cameras have captured footage, and the matter will be reported to the police.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us. We won't let mindless vandalism stop us! ❤️

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who bought a Pop-In beach towel or merchandise this year — especially those who've taken them on holiday!
Seeing your photos from beaches, pools and places around the world has been brilliant, and the banter they've generated back in the café has been even better! 😂
Who'd have thought a little greasy spoon at the end of Aberavon Beach would end up travelling around the world? 🌍❤️

🏖️ OVER 200 POP-IN BEACH TOWELS SOLD! 🏖️
We just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has bought one of our Pop-In Café beach towels — and especially to all of you who’ve packed them in your suitcases and taken a little bit of the Pop-In on holiday with you this year! ❤️
Who would have thought that a 50-year-old greasy spoon café from the “arse end of Aberavon Beach” — as someone recently so eloquently put it 😂 — would end up selling over 200 beach towels!
Honestly, we can’t quite believe it.
🌴 They’ve been on beaches, around swimming pools and on sunbeds all over the place this year — and we’ve loved seeing all your holiday photos.
A brand-new delivery of Pop-In beach towels has just arrived! 🏖️
They always seem to sell out quickly, so grab one while we’ve got them.

After so many of you kept asking for them, we finally gave in...
