As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign Sam is taking on a "triple no ni**le challenge" to raise awareness and inspire people to check themselves.

At 19, Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy to her chest. While the treatment saved her life, radiotherapy increased their risk of developing breast cancer later in life. She underwent a risk reduction double mastectomy in April 2025 and says that for her, it was the right decision. Now 32, she has tackled the London Marathon, Chase the Sun, a 205-mile cycle ride between sunrise and sunset, and a two-mile Swim Serpentine challenge in London – raising money for our charity partner CoppaFeel!. Sam took on all of her three challenges topless to start conversations, challenge perceptions and show that her body is strong and valid.

She said: "It's liberating! I'm doing them all topless to show off the scars. I want people to be able to advocate for themselves, go to the GP and, seeing my chest, think, 'I should probably check my chest, there's a bit of a lump, go get it checked out. I don't want to get scars like that.' I think it's beautiful, this survivor's body I live in and I'm really proud of it. But I know there'll be some people that feel differently, they might see that and go "I should get that little lump checked" and that's what I'm doing. I've lived through all that rubbish so that I can try and turn it into something good. I wanted to do something bold and brave and give people an opportunity to see it."

Sam also has a message for Asda customers: "Happy 30th birthday to Tickled Pink. What you guys have been doing over the years is amazing. I've been seeing that messaging since I was a kid and you know when Asda turns pink everybody knows about it. It's such a great platform to raise that awareness and raise that message and get people checking their chests and advocating for themselves and raising money for vital things like Breast Cancer Now and everything they do and CoppaFeel! and everything they do. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. 🎀

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. 💗

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

💗 This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.💕

The Tickled Pink awareness posters displayed in our St Leonards-on-Sea store played a huge part in our colleague Donna's decision to check herself – and when she did she found a small lump in her breast which turned out to be cancerous.

Seeing those reminders every day helped her to recognise what to look out for and encouraged her to take action. In August last year Donna, who's 46, found a tiny lump, less than a centimetre, just under her ni**le. At first, she thought it might be a harmless cyst, something that would disappear on its own, but after a few days it remained so, with a gentle nudge from her partner, John, she made the decision to visit her GP. A mammogram and biopsies were carried out, and within three weeks she found out she had Stage 1 breast cancer. In October, she underwent a full mastectomy, along with the removal of four lymph nodes under her arm, and then started chemotherapy. She's since made a great recovery and has returned to work.

Donna said: "My mum had breast cancer at about the same age as me so I was kind of aware, but I'm one those people who think everything's okay and never go to a doctor. I see all the Tickled Pink stuff at work every day. The posters are everywhere, even the toilets. You can't miss them. Their message worked as it made me very aware, and so I thought I'd better check myself. I'd like to think that a lot of our customers are seeing the messages too and checking themselves. The earlier you catch things, the easier it is to deal with it. Thankfully I caught mine early, so it was relatively easy to get rid of.

"Tickled Pink is a great charity and it's brilliant in raising awareness. I've always supported Tickled Pink in the store and worn the T shirts, we all do here. Our community champion Wendy always makes sure we are up for it."

A massive thank you to both Sally and Karen for volunteering and joining me in store as we kick started our month of fundraisers in support of Asda Tickled Pink.

Both women are breast cancer survivors themselves and shining examples of how to use your experience to help others and give back.

Our customers were so generous and so willing to stop and tell us their stories.Breast cancer really does touch so many lives!

Pop into store every Saturday this October as we will be holding a different fundraiser each week in hopes of raising lots of money and awareness for breast cancer support.

When our ambient team leader Becky (a recent breast cancer survivor) spotted a customer picking up lots of our Tickled Pink products today, she approached her for a chat.

The lovely customer, Zoe, informed her she too was a recent breast cancer survivor and is about to head into the ‘moving on’ stage of her recovery.

Zoe said when she saw the products she just had to pick them up, knowing what a difference the support makes.

Becky rushed over to tell me about their interaction and I luckily managed to grab a picture of them both together before Zoe left the store 💕.

I was thrilled to present Community Regeneration Outreach Projects (aka Keyham Green Places) with a cheque for £18,018.

This money will go such a long way in helping the facility to install a brand new kitchen to replace the current one which has been there since the centre opened.

The kitchen gets lots of use from cooking up meals to supply the weekly food bank to making and dishing up community lunches.

Everyone at Keyham Green Places is so incredibly grateful and we can’t wait to follow along with the project to see the transformation.

It waslovely to visit our local Elm Community Centre and Wellbeing Hub this morning as they have just been awarded a grant of £500 from The Asda Foundation. This grant will be used to bring back their adult seated yoga classes.

The community centre provides a vital home away from home for so many people in our local community and it’s great to know that they can continue doing the wonderful work that they do.

I had the pleasure of dropping off a raffle prize donation to the Elm Community Centre and Wellbeing Hub for their summer fundraiser this weekend.

The community centre is looking to raise over £50,000 to carry out essential repair work to the beams of their roof which, after decades of wear and tear and British weather, are in much need of repair.

Their fundraising efforts start this summer with a community fun day, which I will be volunteering at, offering a bbq, raffle, face painter and garden games.

We’d love for the community to come together to help this beloved centre raise the money it needs to remain a vital part of our local community.

Well done Holly. We're all really proud of you.

Well done Holly. We're all really proud of you.

First aider Holly has been praised for her quick thinking, calmness and cool head after an 18-year-old woman suddenly collapsed, banged her head and knocked herself out while shopping with her mum at our Plymouth store.

Holly said: "When I heard the call go out on the Tannoy for a first aider, I rushed the the scan and go area. The girl had hit her head and was unconscious. I put her in the recovery position and cleared her airway, while a colleague phoned for an ambulance. We put a curtain round the area to give her some privacy and after a while she came round, but was a disorientated, bless her. Her mum was in shock, so I reassured her and made sure she was okay."

Paramedics arrived and, after checking her over and dealing with a cut to the back of her head, took her by ambulance to hospital. Holly, who has been nominated for an Asda service superstar award, said: "My first aid training kicked in and I did what I had to do. I'm proud of myself. It's a nice feeling helping someone and I'm just glad she's okay."

We proudly celebrated our colleagues who have reached milestone years in their Asda careers.

Big congratulations to Lorraine, Lisa, Denise, Justin, Paul, Marie and Ann, who together have a combined total of 185 years service!

We invited them to a big celebration lunch in Exeter where they joined colleagues from other Asda stores in the region who have also reached their milestone years of service.

Thank you all for your continued dedication and service to our Asda Plymouth store.

We wanted to shine a light on some of our colleagues who are keeping our local community active through football.

At Asda Plymouth we have not one, two, three or four, but FIVE football coaches. All of whom work on our home shopping department!

Lauren, Martin and Steve all coach teams for young people whilst Rich and Jack coach adult teams.

I presented each of them with a certificate in recognition of the work they do to keep people active and involved in sport. Great job guys! - Kirsty, Asda community champion

We had a surprise celebrity visit today when Michael Barrymore popped into store to purchase the viral custard cream cake.
