It has been an AMAZING week here and we are absolutely DELIGHTED to at long last be able to share some good news. We are launching our recruitment today and are buzzing about what you can all look forward to. First things first - here is the link you need:

It's a major clue that we are NEARLY THERE!

Now, another really important thing - we have had loads of lovely folk getting in touch with us for a wee while now enquiring about jobs and we have had some lovely conversations with you either in person, face to face or by email. We've also had some eager parents in touch to offer sacrifices - it's all been a bit hectic so please - EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN TOUCH - please use the link to 'officially' submit your details. We can then keep everything together and the email mountain might possibly be just a munro 🙈

We've achieved some major milestones this week with the end of the construction of the front counter, the nearly last of the plumbing, the almost end of the electrical and the soon-to-be end of the painting 🙄😂 We are now at the CLEANING phase 😭 and then the INSTALL phase of our new toys so the end is definitely in sight 🙏

Happy weekend everybody! We hope that you are all safe, well, warm, cosy and chipper in these blustery winds.

It's been a great week here and we are inching nearer to those beautiful doors being opened on a permanent basis. It's kind of a 'lots to report' but at the same time 'nothing of interest' kind of a thing at the moment unless your nerd levels have been vastly underestimated 🤓 There is only so much we can convey about "shelf went up" and "unit was painted" or "poles were anchored" or "woo the new toilet alarm is working" but lots of wee ticks add up to significant progress and makes for a very happy AliBob. Let's be clear - it's never going to be quick enough for any of us - but we are moving in the right direction so more of the same please 🙌

Phone line is active, internet is whirring away, we are licensed to sell AMAZING booze - and on that note, we had some great supplier meetings this week to get some exciting local produce stocked for your enjoyment. Cider and spirits, fruit and veg, whisky and wine - all the usual pairings but nothing old and most certainly a few NEW things to tickle your tastebuds 🥰

Timeline - everyone is asking and we wish we had a crystal ball - but closest we can offer at the mo, front counter due for completion Friday 4th March with a week after that for paint and snagging (with an 'N') we then need to CLEAN 😭 and prepare for installation of the coffee machine. Possibly by Friday 11th ? Hopefully plumbing done by then too and kitchen install latest by Friday 18th. If we can persuade Ali to stop adding lights & sockets and ban any further kitchen layout input from 🙄 then The Stirling Electrician might actually be able to sign everything off for the building inspectors 🙏Our table tops arrive this coming week, feet shortly thereafter, and we will then be recruiting 💪🤞

All we can say is thank you. For the patience, for the confidence, for the hope, for the support, for the funding, for the love, for the advice (except ), for the optimism and for standing by us ❤️ It will all be returned in shovels shortly and we are SO looking forward to seeing you all again soon x

We could tell you a funny story about someone who bought ovens that didn't fit through the door to the kitchen so they had to be manhandled through a hole in the wall by this amazing team of people.

But that would be embarrassing.

And besides, they 'only' weighed 140kg. So what was all the fuss about really ........

Firmus Building Services Ltd - where would we be without you 🥰 🤡

Lots of great progress this week. You would have heard it if you'd passed the door, never have we been so happy to hear the sound of a nail gun.

Thank you to Richard from Mill Architects Ltd. for a good walkthrough this week before we apply for our building warrant and planning completion

Yet another gold standard effort from the Stirling Electrician and Scotia Eco Electrical Ltd and more crocheting of cables for our wifi by Brian.

Lots and lots of thanks to everyone for sticking with this, we think (whispers it) March is achievable for opening and we are even so excited we have started picking out china 😂 😱

The next thing on the list is recruitment. We've spoken to tonnes of folk over the past year who have expressed an interest so please keep an eye out shortly for the recruitment for the AliBob Circus. You think we're joking but the first one up is the Lion Tamers 😎

This post has been written, deleted, re-written and re-deleted many MANY times over the past few weeks and months, but a chance (but hugely lovely) encounter with someone yesterday outside our new front door spurred us on to just getting it done - so thank you.

You all know us well enough by now to understand that our posts are always open and honest. The truth this time, however, is that our lives have been quite sad and upsetting lately so we've not known how best to begin sharing what has been going on.

It's not even going to be really possible to explain the full extent of things here because (a) it's not what you need to hear and (b) it's also, quite frankly, a little boring, technical and bleugh and (c) may actually come across as unintentionally complacent based on what everyone else has going on at the moment. There is so much negativity and horrible things going on in the world that it would seem quite churlish of us to think that there are not other people who are a hell of a lot worse off than us. Finally (d) this is probably what happens with these things, so just shut up and get on with it 😂

It started so positively with getting our planning permission (albeit six months 'late') but then we encountered our first struggle to find trades. Our main contractor failed us and we couldn't find anyone to replace them. Fourteen different trades people came and went. Turned up. Nodded. Said they would send a quote. Didn't. There's only so far you can get with learning stuff from YouTube videos and we were assured that the Building Officers at the Council wouldn't like us installing our own fuseboard 🤷

This is not news to anyone that has dealt with trades recently because the post-Covid world is a very different place. We weren't a big enough job for some. For others we were too big. There are AMAZING trades out there that are booked up for months in advance and one day (when we are better organised), we will be able to plan far enough ahead to get these people booked in. We are also really delighted that a long-maligned area of the service economy is at last being properly utilised because the importance of good trades is hugely under-rated. But that doesn't get our thing built this side of the next ice age, so we had to wait and be patient to find the right people. And we now have 👌

Then there were no materials. Then there WERE materials but they cost a gazillion pounds. Then there were none again. Then they cost THREE gazillion pounds. And now there are none again. 🤦‍♀️

Then we were told our kitchen equipment was 8 weeks away. Then we were told it was 10 weeks away. Then we were told it was 16 weeks away. Then we were told it was "Spring 2022" away. 💩

Very quickly we were losing a grip on things. Having just lost everything in December 2020 through no fault of our own, being faced with losing everything again was just too much to process.

A final call this week to be told that someone else was pulling out meant that we faced closing the doors forever and walking away from it all and we faced losing all our savings with all the costs that it would involve to simply not even begin.

The thought of having to share that information with you all was just too much for us to contemplate. How can we tell you all that it wasn't going to happen? Our soups were gone forever 😳 No more The Nut One 😲

But WAIT A MINUTE HERE.

It can't be the end.

Failure is not an option - it's not our first time at the CHAOS RODEO folks !!!! 😎

One text message later..........

We got one wee ping on our phone - and NOT the dreaded CoVid one!!!!!

The details are unimportant. But suffice it to say: we are back.

We might all be a bit older. Definitely not wiser. But we pinkie promise we will be back soon ❤️
