A wickedly good collaboration between two Isle of Wight quality producers, this treat is not for the faint of heart. Dare to indulge in the unexpected?

Did you know brown bread ice cream was once a favourite of Georgian England’s high society? Back in the 1700s, ice cream was a rare treat and brown bread was one of its most luxurious (and unusual) flavours! Alongside classics like strawberry and vanilla, you’d find flavours like parmesan, cucumber, orange flower and even artichoke on the menu at grand banquets.

By blending caramelised breadcrumbs into a creamy base you get a flavour somewhere between malt, biscuit and nougat. It might sound unusual, but it’s surprisingly delicious - and easy to recreate at home!

You'd be amazed at how many recipes are online, including some modern variations that have a fruit ripple, honey or nuts. We'll post some links in the comments below.

Wonderful to hear The Old Smithy are back up and running, and a true example of our Island's community spirit when you see two businesses supporting each other in times of need.

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful customers for your patience following our kitchen fire. We are beyond thrilled to announce that our coffee shop is now OPEN! ☕🍰

We are serving freshly brewed coffee, homemade cakes, fresh pastries, homecooked quiches, and a cold selection. Unfortunately, due to the severe damage to our kitchen, we are UNABLE TO SERVE HOT FOOD for the time being.

We want to give a massive thank you to The Apple Farm who have been so kind and let us use their catering kitchen. Thanks to them, our amazing cook Jackie has been able to continue making her famous cream cakes for you all! 💛

Thank you for bearing with us through what has been a very difficult few weeks. We are so excited to welcome you back through our coffee shop doors, and can’t wait to see smiley faces again!
