Opened in 2016, Gosforth Civic Theatre (GCT) is an independent arts venue, café bar, events space and community hub three miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. GCT programmes high-quality theatre, memorable live music events and diverse performances. GCT is a unique social enterprise; income from ticket sales, space rental, donations and food and drink sales is used to provide opportunit

ies for young people and people with learning disabilities to train, perform, and belong, ultimately creating the world they want to live in. It was founded by disability arts charity Liberdade community development trust (pronounced lib-er-dar-jie). Founded in 2003, Liberdade began as an apprenticeship scheme to support and enable a group of young people with learning disabilities to set up and run their own theatre company. In 2012 the company members wanted to open a theatre where everyone was welcome, they wanted to have jobs in their theatre and to provide the opportunities they’d had for other young people, so Gosforth Civic Theatre became a reality. Now, those company members play an essential role in its governance and future direction.

The Queen of Bluegrass is coming to GCT!

Kristy Cox and her band bring an exciting blend of high-energy, hard-driving bluegrass music and tight, soulful harmonies. The group’s combination of top-tier musicianship and traditional bluegrass influences creates performances that are both powerful and fun!

Also joining her is John Miller, one of the UK’s leading traditional country singers, making a rare solo appearance without the Country Casuals.

If you love bluegrass, country or just a good night of live music, this one’s for you!

A huge good luck to one of our GCT Youth Dancers, Callum, as he heads off to NYDC Summer School today!

Over the next four days, Callum will join an exclusive group of talented young dancers, working with Alleyne Dance, Hofesh Shechter Company and Stopgap Dance Company to develop his skills while learning, creating and exploring new work.

At the beginning of August, NOVUM Newcastle brought loads of arts and creativity to the city!

Our Dance Development group took part in Portals, a series of structures representing the different seasons.

As part of the project they created poetic soundscapes for each Portal, written by a creative writer, and also created some banner designs!

The Portals were co-designed by MADE by Bridge Creative with communities from Arcadea Arts.

Our building is all on one level, so there are no stairs to worry about when moving around the venue. All of our entrances, exits and fire exits have wheelchair-accessible, level access too.
