As I reckon most of you know, I've been running Chin Up alongside completing my Psychology degree, and as of a few weeks ago - I completed it baby π π
I initially had the idea for Chin Up in 2017, as I started to recover from several years of really horrible mental health - my early 20s are pretty much a blur if I'm honest, I fu**ed up my first go at uni, didn't have much direction, but knew I wanted to work in mental health and I wanted to pursue my passion for coffee.
In 2018 I started working on the trailer, getting together the brand and starting to approach venues and the council to get permission to pitch up, despite having absolutely no idea what I was doing
Following a pretty dramatic relapse in my mental, I moved out of Newcastle and put the whole dream on ice while I put the pieces back together and got back to square one. The van sat in my parents back yard collecting dust.
I wanted to have another pop at Uni, this time in a subject I love and with support from friends and family, so I enrolled in a Psychology course and moved back to where I wanted to be - this lovely city of ours.
My plan was to give Chin Up a whirl alongside my degree - how hard could that be right? Very fu***ng hard as it turns out haha
But thanks to you guys believing in us and liking what Chin Up stands for, it's been able to grow into what it is today and support me throughout my whole degree. It's evolved from a pipe dream to something that I'll be proud of forever.
I'd like to just say thank you to all of you for making this possible and understanding when my work on my degree, especially in the last year, has needed to take precedent. You're all very dear to me, so I thank you all for coming and grabbing a coffee and hanging around for a bit of a chat β
It does get better - if I can do it, anyone can. Keep your Chin Up, one step at a time, it'll be alright.
