It’s been a busy week here at Snelsmore, and I’ve finally found a moment to write our post! 🐴

Last weekend we headed up to the Minsterley Show, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! A true agricultural show with something for everyone. 🌾🐴

We were absolutely delighted with our two ponies. Snelsmore Sieanna was second in her class, while little Snelsmore Blossom took everything in her stride, loving the busy atmosphere of the show ring. She strutted her way to Miniature Champion, followed by Overall Shetland Champion! 🏆✨

Later in the day, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to represent the Shetlands in the main ring, bringing a fantastic day to a close. It was a long but incredibly rewarding day.

It was also lovely to see several other Snelsmore ponies having a successful weekend with their owners. A huge well done to Thumbelina, Uylana and Aurelia we are super proud of you all and love seeing our ponies out there enjoying themselves and doing so well!

Sometimes things happen for a reason…

After missing the NPS Summer Championships due to a paperwork error at the plating station, we tried our hardest to get everything sorted, but unfortunately time just ran out for us.
Once the MOT was finally sorted and we were back on the road, we decided that Snelsmore Venus having missed the NPS show could join the two ponies we had already entered for the Downs Shetland Pony Group Show later in the week — and what a decision that turned out to be!

Our novice, Snelsmore Zoe, was an absolute star. She performed foot-perfect in the ring, and we couldn’t be happier with the attitude of this lovely little mare.
Snelsmore Sieanna was awarded Reserve Senior Champion, while Snelsmore Venus took Senior Championship, Reserve Miniature Champion, and then went on to be The Reserve Supreme of Show!

We are absolutely thrilled with all three ponies and so proud of them.
A huge thank you to everyone at the Downs Shetland Pony Group Show for a wonderful day, and to everyone who helped and supported us along the way.

Motherhood just wasn't meant for Snelsmore Zoe. After only covering her the once, we were fully prepared for her to become a show pony, but nature had other ideas.

She gave birth to a beautiful coloured c**t by Snelsmore Ulysses, but sadly, with no milk and awkwardly positioned teats, it was a real struggle from the very beginning. He tried so hard, but in the end, infection took the better of him. Heartbreakingly, it just wasn't meant to be. Somehow, Zoe seemed to know and quietly walked away.
The irony was that she had no milk when she foaled, yet when we were trying to dry her up afterwards, she dripped milk for weeks.

So tomorrow, Zoe is coming along for the ride to her very first show. She won't be competing in any classes, but that's not the point. Tomorrow is about giving her a happy, positive experience, enjoying the day together, and embracing new beginnings. ❤️ Here's to the start of Zoe's next chapter as a show pony.

We're delighted to announce that our two young c**ts, Snelsmore Aragorn and Snelsmore Barolo have both recently passed their voluntary vetting with flying colours. Both c**ts also tested clear for Skeletal Atavism (SA), so the future looks incredibly bright for these two handsome boys, and we're excited to watch them continue to develop!

After recovering from another long, hot day at the Royal Welsh Show, we can look back on another enjoyable visit. Although it hasn't always been our luckiest show, it's an event we always look forward to and a real highlight of the showing calendar. It's always lovely to catch up with distant friends, and it was especially nice to see Snelsmore Uylana and Snelsmore Auriella again, both looking so well.

We're incredibly proud of our two girls, who gave me everything I could have asked for and truly showed their socks off.

Snelsmore Blossom was awarded a second place from a class of fifteen. She thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the big ring, performed beautifully, and felt completely at home.

Snelsmore Venus also rose to the occasion, behaving impeccably and giving a lovely performance to take fourth place in a strong mare class.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and helped make it another memorable Royal Welsh Show.

We are delighted to share the latest results from our ongoing Skeletal Atavism (SA) testing programme here at Snelsmore Stud.
As part of our commitment to breeding healthy, quality ponies, we continue to test members of our herd. By testing mares with foals by SA-clear stallions, we can confirm the status of both mare and foal through parentage two results for the price of one, so to speak!

We are thrilled to announce that our lovely older mare Snelsmore Lucie Locket has tested clear of Skeletal Atavism (SA) This also confirms that her beautiful piebald daughter Snelsmore Coco Chanel is SA clear by parentage.
Even more exciting, Snelsmore Coco Chanel has also tested homozygous for the Tobiano gene (TT), meaning she carries two copies of the Tobiano gene and will always pass this desirable colouring on to her offspring.

Our second mare tested was Snelsmore Wren, who has also returned a clear SA result. This means her daughter, Snelsmore Chiff Chaff, by Snelsmore Ulysses, is likewise clear of SA by parentage.

These are very pleasing results for our stud and another positive step forward in our breeding programme. There is still more work to do, but we are certainly heading in the right direction, and we look forward to sharing further updates as more results come in.

National Shetland Performance Show 2026 What a Day!

The Shetland Performance Show is over for another year, and it certainly didn't disappoint!

During the week it looked as though we might not even make it. With our lorry in the garage and me covered in an allergic reaction to midge bites, attending the show seemed almost impossible. Thankfully, everything came together in the end, a reminder to never give up hope.

Snelsmore Blossom, our beautiful two-year-old filly, was undoubtedly the star of the day. Winning the Miniature Junior Championship, then Overall Junior Championship, before taking the ultimate honours as Supreme Champion and Silver Medal Winner.
What an incredible achievement for this special young filly!

Snelsmore Venus had a fantastic day, winning her Mare class before going on to take the Miniature Championship.

There was also a last-minute change of plan when Izzy was thrown in at the deep end to show Snelsmore Mystique while I was busy in another ring. Together, they did an amazing job, winning their Veteran class, and taking the Reserve Championship, securing their Golden Ticket to the Veteran Final at Arena UK.

A huge thank you to the show organisers, judges, stewards and photographers for putting on such a wonderful show and for capturing so many special memories.
Also thank you to Brynony Wellings-Hodge and Emily Mayfield for your kindness helping us in the championships.

Days like these remind us why we do what we do, and we couldn't be prouder of our ponies. Now it's time to look ahead to our next adventure at the Royal Welsh Show.
We can't wait to see what it brings!

🌟 What a fantastic day at the Hampshire Charity Horse Show! 🌟

A huge thank you to Vera and all of her wonderful helpers for putting on such a relaxed, friendly show while raising money for such a worthwhile cause. It was a pleasure to support such a lovely event.

We took along our two brood mares, Snelsmore Venus and Snelsmore Sienna, who are both enjoying a year back in the show ring before welcoming their 2027 foals—and what a day they had! ❤️

🏆 Snelsmore Sienna
🥇 1st Miniature Shetland Mare, 4 Years & Over
🏆 Shetland Section Champion
👑 Supreme Champion

🏆 Snelsmore Venus
🥇 1st Alternative Colour (Roan)
🏅 Reserve Colour Section Champion

We couldn't be prouder of these two wonderful mares. They both looked and behaved beautifully, making the day even more special.

We're looking forward to more shows with them over the rest of the season before they both become mums again next year. We can't wait to meet their 2027 foals!

Congratulations to everyone who took part, and thank you once again to everyone involved in making the day such a success. 💙🐴

What a lovely day yesterday!

Not only was it Father’s Day (Happy Father’s Day, Cliff!), but it was also my mum’s heavenly birthday, so there were lots of reasons to celebrate and remember.

We also had a fantastic day showing at Anne Allen's Charity Show at Stretcholt Equestrian Center, Somerset.

Little Snelsmore Barolo had his very first outing, and we couldn’t be prouder of our two-year-old c**t. He grew in confidence as the day went on, loaded brilliantly, despite the heat he took everything in his stride, and finished as Reserve Junior Champion. A great first experience and lots to build on.

Snelsmore Ragdoll enjoyed her day and had a brilliant show too, winning the Mare Class, Senior Champion, Overall Miniature Shetland, and Reserve Supreme.

After the lunch break, it was time for Snelsmore Sienna to make her return to the ring. It’s been seven years and three foals since she last showed, but she soon remembered what it was all about, winning the Coloured Class and going on to be the Afternoon Champion.

To top it all off, we had a good journey home and were treated to a surprise Father’s Day dinner, the perfect end to a very special day.
