Cafe Hobby Update - less than 1 week to Partizan Show at Newark Showground!

It’s traditional for lots of last minute adjustments and painting before a show, however this one feels particularly tight!

It’s probably that many of the figures are home 3D printed before painting. Lots of fantastic choice available though - these flighty ‘space elves’ will be the last to add to the show collection.

Now time to concentrate more on the admin, rules writing, army lists, background lore and efficient packing ready to take to the show!

Worth mentioning that to join our friends Partizan Wargaming and History we are closed Sunday to attend…

Cafe Games Classics - Betrayal On The House On The Hill

It seems many of our favourite games are quite long in the tooth! This little scarer first appeared in the 1980s when slasher movies were at their cinematic peak.

What was great about this game was the initial co-operative nature where players worked as a team until…the game flipped on it’s head when a player became ‘the betrayer’!

What was novel was the branching story line and multiple evil outcomes. Not perfect by any means, however the scope and ambition of the game set it apart at that time when ‘hex and counter’ games were the standard.

Clearly still enjoyed as we think there is a fourth edition reprint. We have the original classic though…

Plenty of games already being played tonight…interested? Join us every Thursday evening from 6.30pm.

Cafe Hobby Update - Epsilonian Friction for Demonstration game

Under two weeks to go now for our attendance at with our friends Partizan Wargaming and History and still plenty to do.

When playing games we like a little unpredictability or ‘friction’ for players to deal with when planning their tactics.

For our demo game, the Epsilonians provide this chaotic, stargate driven, narrative. This superior space race MAY appear - or may not. If they do, the quality of their intervention could vary from tribal techno-levies through to elite mobile striders destroying everything in their path.

This unpredictability will be provided by Epsilonian command dice in the command cup. When drawn they will be rolled to see what happens…

Speaking of command dice, a front cover window has been drawn up to frame the foundations of our house rules for this genre. Let us know what you think.

Welcome to our first cakes provided by !

These wonderful choices are available from today.

For those unaware, Beaumont House are a long standing, local charitable organisation providing hospice care in the community.

We are now selling the biscuits for £1 a bag too. You could ‘try before you buy’ with the first 20 coffees sold each day. Be quick though, the bags we had this week are nearly all gone!

There is always next week…

Sometimes we don’t just get the pleasure of playing a game, sometimes we get to do it with the designers and makers!

Edwina and David Twells are a lovely couple who have followed a dream…in their own words;

‘CounterConnect started as a dream, now it’s a reality! A dice and counters game developed by our family over a two year period’

You can find out more about how to get the game by calling 07544088520 or email them at [email protected]

Alternatively give it a try with the generously donated game which is now part of our games library.

Well done Edwina and David for following a passion through to a reality which we can all enjoy together.

Cafe Hobby Update - Demonstration game prep for ‘The Other Partizan’ tabletop show in Newark in October

After alot of 3D printing and painting, time is starting to run short for putting the ‘admin’ together. Partizan Wargaming and History is a great show and certainly deserves time to put a great game together.

This one is a little special for us as it’s a first public outing of our own budding games rules for science fiction. So now it’s down to clarifying unit types, rules references and reference sheets to aid players to join the game.

As there is alot of 3d printed material, including ‘rescaling’ we are also going to put together where we found the computer stl files from and how we changed them sizewise.

We will share more as it comes…
