🎉 12 YEARS OF THE PIE SHED 🎉
Today we're celebrating 12 years in business, and what a journey it's been.
Back in June 2014, The Pie Shed started with a wing and a prayer. There was no funding, no investors, no backing – just a burning desire to open my own place and fill it with delicious homemade food.
I couldn't have done it without the friends and family who helped turn an old car stereo shop in Dewsbury into The Pie Shed. They stripped walls, painted, scrubbed, fitted fixtures and fittings, and helped us beg, borrow and find everything we needed just to get the doors open.
Not long after, my mum left her job as a dinner lady and joined me as our baker. That first year was relentless. We worked day and night – literally. There were times I cried because my feet hurt so much, but we kept going. Every penny the business made went straight back into it. Slowly, the second-hand fridges and borrowed equipment were replaced with brand-new commercial kit, and little by little The Pie Shed grew.
Then came my sister, Cody. She joined me at just 19 years old and has grown up with The Pie Shed. Today she's still my right-hand woman, steering the ship front of house while Mum continues making our delicious homemade pies and I keep busy in the kitchen.
Like many small businesses, we've had our fair share of challenges. We've been broken into multiple times, experienced an armed robbery, battled through Covid closures and the infamous Rule of 6. We did absolutely everything we could to stay afloat. Who remembers The Pie Shed Pavilion? ❤️
Five years ago we moved to our current home. Saying goodbye to the original Pie Shed was emotional because I'd built it from nothing, but we couldn't be happier to be where we are today, right in the heart of West Yorkshire.
Over the years we've overcome so much together – from me being off work for six months after emergency surgery on a broken ankle, to Cody and I navigating the devastating loss of our Dad, and of course the ever-rising costs that businesses face today.
But here we are. Still standing. Still baking. Still serving. Still loving what we do.
To every customer who has bought a pie, recommended us to a friend, supported us through the tough times, and been part of our journey – thank you. You've helped turn a dream into 12 incredible years.
And despite everything, we'd do it all again.
Here's to the next chapter. ❤️🥧
