As I've recently experienced, joining an established group of women can be a bit daunting, can't it?

In fact, it can be very easy not to join, just in case you feel unwelcome.

We don't know who's who, everyone else seems to know each other, and we wonder where we're ever going to fit in.

That's not how Athena feels. I promise.

When a new woman joins us, we're genuinely curious about her. We want to know what she does, what makes her tick and what brought her along. We'll introduce her to other members, ask questions, bring her into conversations and make sure she's not left feeling like an outsider.

Of course friendships form in our community, but those friendships keep opening the circle wider.

So, if you've been wondering whether you'll be welcome somewhere everyone already knows each other...

You can be assured we'll make room for you.

And before long, you might be the one making room for someone new and getting the warm, fuzzy feeling that brings 🥰

IN PERSON networking event on Thursday 22 October!

This time we're hosting at Tres Corazones in Wendover - and we can't wait to see you!

Tickets are £20 for visitors (£10 for Athena members) which includes tea/coffee, pastries and a donation to Chilterns Neuro Centre, our collaborative partner.

Open to all, please do come along to meet a mix of our members and other local businesses (men and women welcome to this collaborative event)

And I absolutely promise, no pitch slapping or arm twisting to join our network - it really will just be a warm welcome and morning of conversations and community building.

👩‍🎓Business Development Training👩‍🎓

No, I don't mean an extended sales pitch where we all squirm a little and anticipate the "and this is how you sign up to work with me" slide and try not to look at the screen or catch the speaker's eye.

I mean a training session that will support your personal or business development. A talk where the presenter has thought about the women in the room and written something they can all take a little something from.

And in October, across all our groups, the incredibly generous Alice Whitehead, Baked by Alice Louisa, is presenting on Progress Boards.

Because Vision Boards are one thing, but how can you stay motivated on the way to your goals?

Alice has BIG dreams for her business and yours. She's previously shared her love of Vision Boards with our groups, now she's sharing how a Progress Board can help us stay on track and motivated.

🥳🥳Celebrating our member renewals!

September has been a bumper month for member renewals, so I thought I'd share these wonderful women with you!

Lisa Monaghan - Your PA - has only been with our Athena region for a year, but has been in Athena for many years. She's a brilliant woman to know, is ridiculously well organised and has a smile and giggle that lights up any room

Poonam Gupta - Holly Cow Tea - has only been a member for a year, but, boy, has she made her membership work! She's collaborating with other amazing women, has attended many of our in person events and is a great cheerleader. She also makes a fabulous cup of tea!

Melanie Mason - Mason & Co Financial Planning - has renewed her membership for the umpteenth year 😆 Actually, unless my Maths is wrong (and hers is very likely better than mine) it's her 9th year in Athena. I met her as a trainee Financial Adviser and now she's the Co Director of the firm! What a powerhouse she is!

Emily Williams - Content Clever - has renewed for her 5th year of membership! In that time, we've seen her have her gorgeous daughter, get married and move house... twice! She's a fantastic asset to our community and she's supported countless members during her membership. When I asked if she planned to renew, she laughed and said "of course, you don't get rid of me that easily!"

Thank you ladies for renewing your commitment to our community and your businesses - it's a true pleasure to have you with us 🥰

This morning I'm preparing to be scared into action!

Melanie Mason is presenting another Business Development Training at our Aylesbury Tuesday group today. She takes this slot almost every year. And every year her honest, simple, no-nonsense information about the need for financial planning for the future you want makes me sit up and take notice!

It's too late to book for today's meeting, but if you want me to introduce you to this brilliant woman who's genuinely (and I do mean that) committed to empowering women with their financial future, drop me a line.

What a start back after the summer break!

I'll be honest, I wasn't ready for it, but it was back to "work" with a blast this week as our monthly meetings resumed.

Our own meeting in Tring on Wednesday had a brilliant Business Development Training from the wonderful Natalia DaCosta (The Athena Network Dorset) on Unconscious Bias*. And what a training! Most times I catch myself and my unconscious biases, but Natalia's talk made me think even more deeply about this and I'm so grateful.

We had visiting members attending from all over the UK - Surrey, Bournemouth, Oxford, Stoke on Trent - and beyond - Dubai and Guatemala!

Then I went attended Kate Cherry's Harpenden group (The Athena Network Bedfordshire & Mid Hertfordshire) meeting on Thursday and met members from that area, Bedfordshire, Suffolk, and France!

Next week I have members booked from Northampton, Bournemouth, Hungerford, Manchester and Singapore!

No-one has had to buy a plane or train ticket to be there, and no-one paid extra to visit another group. Where else could you make global contacts in such an easy, no hustle type way, without leaving your desk?
