🎶 A WEEKEND MOMENT TO TREASURE

One of the absolute highlights of the weekend was having the wonderful Foresail Shanty Group come in for breakfast this morning and treat the whole café to a fabulous impromptu performance. What a treat 🖤🎶

They sang two of our absolute favourites, including Donkey Riding (Rach loves it!) and Cornwall My Home, which genuinely brought a tear to our eyes 🥹❤️

It’s moments like these that make the Mevagissey Shanty Festival so special. Wonderful music, lovely people and a whole café brought together in song. It’s genuinely magical.

Thank you, to Meva Shanty Fest and Foresail, for making our weekend so special and so memorable❤️⚓️

🏴‍☠️ MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE! 🍳☕🎶

After a big night of shanty singing, there’s only one thing for it… a PROPER BREAKFAST! 😂⚓

Whether you’re after a Full Cornish, our BIG Cornish, a veggie or vegan breakfast, or brunch with scrambled eggs, smashed avo and all the extras, we’ve definitely got you covered! 😋

And the best bit… BREAKFAST AVAILABLE ALL DAY! 🙌🍽️

We’ve got lunch starting from 11am too, with our usual sandwiches, jackets and specials, including our Sweet and Savoury Cream Tea, which is always a real crowd pleaser! 🥪🥔🍰

We’re open from 9am, ready for another full day of shanty fun around the village! 🎶🍻

🏴‍☠️ DAY ONE DONE! ⚓🎶

What a cracking first day of Shanty Festival! We’ve loved having so many fabulous Shanty groups performing right outside the café. What a treat! 🖤🎵

Sadly, no photos of us in our hats just yet… but there’s still time! 😂🤞

Let’s do it all again tomorrow! We’ll be OPEN FOR BREAKFAST FROM 9AM, with last food orders at 4pm.

🏴‍☠️ SHANTY FESTIVAL WEEKEND ~ OPEN FROM 9AM! ⚓🎶

It’s here, and it’s one of our favourite weekends of the year! Mevagissey’s annual Shanty Festival is always a brilliant weekend, with fantastic music, a wonderful atmosphere, and the village full of people having a jolly good time! 🖤

🎉 WE’LL BE OPEN LONGER FROM FRIDAY TO MONDAY, WITH BREAKFAST FROM 9AM AND LAST FOOD ORDERS AT 4PM ⚓

🍳 MIGHTY all-day breakfasts to fuel your voyage

🍰 TREASURE-WORTHY homemade cakes & scones
☕ WELL-EARNED cream teas after a hard day’s shantying!

There’s every chance Rach will break into a sea shanty, while Emma may dust off her pirate hat. We can’t promise a professional performance, but we can promise a good breakfast! 😂🏴‍☠️

🍂 A LITTLE AUTUMN UPDATE! 🍂

After the whirlwind of summer, we’ve decided to stay open a little longer as things quieten down. From autumn, our full menu, including breakfast, will now be available for a whole extra hour, with last orders now at 3pm. Hoorah! ☕️🍳

That means there’s more time for a late breakfast, a leisurely lunch, one of Rach’s famous cream teas or a little afternoon treat 🍰❤️

Between you and us, we’re not getting any younger, so we’re rather liking the idea of a slightly gentler pace after a very busy summer, with more time to chat to you all. After all, that’s the best part of the job! 😉

Throughout the Autumn, we’ll usually be open Wednesday to Sunday, but please check our pinned Facebook posts for the latest opening days. As there’s just the two of us, occasionally life gets in the way and we may need to tweak our usual days, so please do check before heading down.

❤️🥔 ANYONE FOR LUNCH? 🥔❤️

We think there’s something very satisfying about a proper jacket potato for lunch.

Ours are baked until they’re lovely and fluffy inside, then you choose any two toppings, and we serve them with a dressed salad and Rachel’s famous homemade coleslaw.

They’ve been flying out today and these two were both cheesy 🧀! One had added tuna 🐠 and the other was loaded with mushrooms 🍄. Both looked delicious!

Our ethos has always been to serve delicious, homemade food, made well, at a price that won’t break the bank, and we think our jackets are a perfect example.

Because sometimes you really don’t need anything fancy. Just a really good lunch, a warm welcome and somewhere nice to sit and enjoy it. Simple really is often best! ❤️

THE UPS AND DOWNS OF CAFE LIFE 🫤

Most of our days in the café are full of lovely customers, sunshine, breakfast and happy chats.

And some days… well… you get this 👇
Settle down for a story 😂

This morning, at 9:10am, before we were even open, a “gentleman” rather dramatically barged through the door wanting breakfast.

When I explained we didn’t open until 9:30, I was treated to a fairly impressive amount of swearing, followed by:

“WHAT DO I DO ABOUT MY CAR PARKING?”

I explained that, unfortunately, his parking arrangements weren’t really within my remit 🤷‍♀️ He slammed the door and stormed off up the street.

Then, just to add a little cherry on top, we received a stinky one-star review because apparently we’d closed 40 minutes before closing time.

Except… we hadn’t. 😂

We take last orders at 2pm and close once everyone has finished. We don’t rush people out, but once the kitchen is cleaned down, we can’t take a new food order.

So there we are. Two very different reminders that running a little independent café isn’t always sunshine and homemade cake 😔

But then the day got better… ❤️

⭐️ Three people told us they’d had the best breakfast of their holiday.

⭐️ A lovely couple returned for their annual visit with their adorable chihuahuas.

⭐️ Rachel was told her scones and cakes were the best they’d ever had.

⭐️ Our lovely neighbours at Moores made us smile and kept us going with delicious fruit.

⭐️ Visitors told us they’ve been coming here for years and look forward to it all year.

⭐️ Our local builder/handyman Phil popped in for a bacon sandwich and helped me remove a really stubborn screw which had been bugging me for weeks!

And that’s the thing about café life. For every difficult moment, there are so many lovely ones that remind us why we do it. ❤️

So here’s me at 9:30am this morning, a little shell-shocked but officially open, wondering what on earth the rest of the day had in store.

At least we can laugh about it now 😂☕️

☀️🍂 GLORIOUS SEPTEMBER ☀️🍂

Well, we made it through another busy summer 😂 and now September has arrived with quieter days, warm sunshine and a little more breathing room💛

The village is still looking gorgeous, the sun is still shining, and there’s something rather lovely about these slower days. There’s more time for a wander, a leisurely breakfast, a spot of lunch and a bit of sitting back and watching the world go by☀️

We’re open for breakfast and lunch, with everything made fresh in our kitchen, plus our usual selection of homemade cakes, scones and sweet treats 🍳🥪🥗🍰

So, if you’re enjoying a September wander around Mevagissey, come and see us. We’ll be here, enjoying the sunshine and making the most of this beautiful little corner of Cornwall 💛
