Answers to frequently asked questions for Masham Sheep Fair:
What does it cost? Entrance is free. The event is run by volunteers in aid of local charities & Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Please buy a programme (ยฃ2) and pay for parking (ยฃ10 per car - you can stuff as many people as you want into your car) to support the show.
When? From about 9 - 3.30/4 on Saturday 26th and about 10 - 3.30 on Sunday 27th
Where? In Masham, in the market place, the field behind St. Mary's Church, the Town Hall, Church, School, Methodist Chapel and around the town (yes, Masham is officially a town, not a village!)
Where can you park? Please follow signs to park on the Recreation Ground (SatNav: HG4 4DS), just off the Avenue. From there it's a very short walk up towards the Community Office (public loo on the way!) into Little Market Place. PLEASE DON'T PARK ON THE ROAD. Your car could get damaged by farm vehicles or impede emergency vehicles
Parking for Blue Badge holders is available - please follow signs from the market place.
Where & when does the sheep racing take place? In the field behind St. Mary's Church. It takes place twice a day - see the programme (ยฃ2) for full details
Does sheep racing hurt the sheep? No! Sheep like to run after food. No-one rides them (One year some Americans thought they did and planned a protest which resulted in more publicity for the Sheep Fair and more people supporting the sheep races)
Are dogs allowed? Yes, so long as they are kept on a short lead, particularly around sheep. They may not be allowed into all buildings, especially at busy times.
Where does the money go? To Yorkshire Air Ambulance and other local charities and organisations in Masham and surrounding area. Many other charities and groups take stalls during the show to fundraise for their organisations so we encourage visitors to support them too.
What else can you do while in Masham? Go to the office for local info, visit the shops, galleries, pubs and cafes.
Is Masham a town or village? It's officially a town, but village sized and with a friendly village mentality
How do you say Masham? It's Mass-am, not mash-em.
We look forward to seeing you at the Show!!
