We don’t need to tell you that we have a fantastic weekend planned (you know the drill 😉):

Friday 21st - Luke James Matear is with us from 8pm and we can’t wait!! He always goes down a storm here and he loves the Maryport love you give him 🎤🎸🕺🏻💃🏻.

Saturday 22nd - Ryan Davidson is joining us from 8pm with a mix of all your favourites from Oasis to McFly to Avril Lavigne to Jamie Webster 🎤🎸🕺🏻💃🏻

We are so proud to bring you an amazing pub that serves you an outstanding range of draught, cask, wines, spirits and mixers as standard, talented musicians every weekend and an electric atmosphere, with good vibes only that you all help to create at your award winning pub.

Today we’re taking a little break from the usual pub posts because we couldn’t let this one pass without saying just how incredibly proud we are of our wonderful son Fin.

Today he received his A Level results and absolutely smashed it. We know how hard he has worked to get here, and seeing that hard work and dedication pay off makes us prouder than we can put into words.

As parents, all you ever want is for your children to be happy in life and to excel in anything they choose to do. Seeing Fin achieve this today means the world to us. Anyone who knows the Captain Nelson will also know that Finlay is a huge part of what we do. He’s been here from day 1 and behind that cool as a cucumber facade that you all know and love 🤣 is someone who has played an integral part in making the pub the success it is today. He’s our sounding board, the one we run ideas past, and does a lot behind the scenes that you don’t see.

We also know how much our customers think of him. So many of you have asked about his exams, wished him luck and genuinely wanted to see him do well, and that means more to us than you probably realise.

Now it’s on to the next chapter and his Degree Apprenticeship, and we know he will tackle that with exactly the same quiet determination he brings to everything else.

Congratulations Fin, we couldn’t be prouder of the man you are, and we know there’ll be a lot of people on the other side of the bar feeling exactly the same 💙.

As always it’s going to be another fantastic weekend here with us at the award winning Captain Nelson, we don’t know how to do it any other way 😏.

Friday 14th August - These guys always go down a storm and we can’t wait for their return!! The insanely talented trio The Colonel’s Recipe join us from 8pm. There will be guitars, banjos, harmonicas and toe tapping tunes from start to finish 🕺🏻💃🏻🎤🎸🪕🎶🍻.

Saturday 15th August - This one is going to be a special one. A local family, a family owned local pub and a local charity coming together for one very special night. Local people supporting local people and showing exactly what community is all about. We are extremely proud to say we are hosting the sensational Brian Oglanby once again for the annual Hospice at Home West Cumbria Charity Night in memory of his beautiful mother Alice Oglanby 🌻. Last year an incredible £2,200 was raised on the night and we think this year that target will be smashed. The raffle prizes are superb and show just how amazing and generous the people and businesses of Maryport are. The Captain Nelson have put up the main prize of a £200 Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa Voucher which is £5 per ticket to enter. The raffle for all the other amazing prizes are £1 per strip to enter. These are available from Jazz Hair Studio Maryport, the Oglanby Family and will also be available on the night to buy.

Saturday 15th August - We have said it once and we will say it again ‘YORKSHIRE PUDDING WRAPS ARE FOR EVERY SEASON’!! Our fantastic friends from Cumbria ROAST company are back with us from 3pm and we think we are just going to start queuing for them now 🤣. These went down an absolute storm last time, sell out is imminent 😋.

The draught, cask, wines, spirits and mixers are outstanding as standard, the atmosphere is electric and the vibes are good. Life’s pretty good when you join us at the Captain Nelson 😎.

A huge thank you to our wonderful friends at Jennings Brewery for an unforgettable evening aboard the Nao Santa María. We had such a fantastic time, and it was made even more special by the warm welcome from everyone involved.

Anyone who knows us knows just how passionate we are about supporting local. Being able to work alongside another local business that shares those same values and takes such pride in what they do is something we are incredibly proud to be a part of. If you are joining us this weekend we have Jennings Limited Edition Cpt Jacks Marra, a 4.5% deep golden ale which has been made to celebrate the Nao Santa Maria visit. Do you know what’s amazing? 10p from every pint sold Jennings will be donating to Maryport Rescue!! If that’s not a reason to call to the Captain Nelson we don’t know what is 🍻.

Huge shout out to the crew (the Captain abandoned ship 🤣). The love, passion and dedication you all have for keeping history alive is inspiring, and it was clear to see just how much this iconic replica means to every one of you (Tristan your always welcome at the Captain Nelson for a gig 🎤🎸🎶). It was an absolute privilege to experience it and we wish you fair winds and following seas on your next adventure.

The beautiful hand knitted fish are back around our bar which only means one thing, Taste Cumbria’s Taste of the Sea is just around the corner!! Tourism has always been incredibly important to us because when Maryport thrives, we all thrive. We believe our town has so much to offer, from its stunning harbour and rich maritime history to the fantastic independent businesses, pubs, cafes and events that make it such a special place to visit. We are passionate about shouting about Maryport and encouraging as many people as possible to come and experience everything it has to offer.

That’s why we’re proud to be one of the main sponsors of this year’s Taste of the Sea festival. The event brings tens of thousands of people to Maryport for an incredible weekend of food, drink and live music, providing a huge boost to local businesses and showcasing our town at its very best. We love sharing Maryport with others and encouraging visitors to come and see it for themselves to understand why we love it so much.

We don’t just believe in Maryport, we are investing in its future. Every decision we make at the Captain Nelson is made with the long term future of our town in mind. Whether it’s creating unforgettable events, supporting local suppliers and talented musicians, or getting behind community initiatives, we’re committed to helping Maryport thrive.

We believe our town deserves to be recognised as one of Cumbria’s must visit destinations, and we are proud to play our part in making that happen. We are invested in Maryport, we will continue to invest in Maryport and we will always champion everything that makes our town such a special place to live, work and visit.

Maryport Live has given us so many incredible memories this year, but this has to be one of the most beautiful and unforgettable moments of the weekend. It’s one of those memories that still gives us goosebumps and brings a tear to our eye every time we watch it back.

The amazing Sign Along With Sophie, who is a friend of Jenny Ball interpreted the performance in British Sign Language. It’s something that really made us stop and think. So many of us take being able to hear live music for granted, but moments like this remind you that music should be for everyone. Seeing people able to experience and connect with such a powerful performance in their own way was genuinely humbling.

Jenny has an incredible voice that completely stops you in your tracks and she’s also an extremely talented songwriter too. This is one of our favourite songs she’s ever written, and seeing it performed alongside Sophie’s interpretation made it even more special. The applause says it all.

If you don’t already, go and show these two amazing ladies some love. Thank you both for this special memory ❤️. British Deaf Association

We honestly don’t know where to start, apologies for the long post but there has been so much to be thankful for.

WHAT A WEEKEND!!

Maryport Live 2026 has once again reminded us why we love this town and why we’re so proud to call the Captain Nelson home.

To our amazing friends and family ‘THANK YOU’. You put your own plans on hold, stepped behind the bar, collected glasses, stocked fridges, cleaned tables and did whatever needed doing without ever asking for anything in return. You became part of the team and we are so incredibly lucky to have people like you in our lives. We hope you know just how much we appreciate every single one of you.

To our musicians, you were simply phenomenal. Across the three days you didn’t just perform, you created moments. There were times we genuinely stopped what we were doing behind the bar just to take it all in. Looking around at crowds of people singing every word, dancing with friends and strangers alike, it didn’t feel like we were in a pub, it felt like we were in the middle of a concert. You gave people memories they will talk about for years 🎶🎤🎸🎷💃🏻🕺🏻🪩.

Shout out to Conner Greaney who designs the amazing timetable so you can all see where and when all the acts are playing. He doesn’t have 20 identical brothers, that’s him running round all the venues filming the acts for the Maryport Live page to showcase what amazing talent was on offer over the weekend.

To our security team, thank you. You were worth your weight in gold. Having people we trust looking after everyone meant we could concentrate on doing what we love.

Thanks to our incredible food vendors that fuelled all those dancing feet this weekend, you guys knocked it out of the park 🍔🍟🌯.

To every single person who came through our doors this weekend, THANK YOU.

We don’t think you realise the impact your support has on us. Every time you choose to spend your afternoon or evening with us, every ticket you don’t have to buy because the music is free, every drink you enjoy whilst supporting local musicians, you are helping keep something really special alive.

Music has always been at the heart of everything we do. It isn’t just background noise, it’s the soundtrack to our lives. We all have that one song that instantly takes us back to an unforgettable night, reminds us of someone special or brings a smile to our face. That’s the magic of live music.

When we bought the Captain Nelson, we asked ourselves one simple question:

What do we want this pub to be?

The answer was easy.

A place where people make memories, a place where musicians love to play and a place where people leave saying “What a night.”

We wanted to become a premier live music venue, and weekends like this remind us why we’ve worked so hard to make that happen.

Watching you all singing at the top of your voices, dancing without a care in the world and living your best lives is exactly why we do what we do. There are songs that instantly take us back to certain nights in this pub, certain artists who have left us speechless and moments that have genuinely given us goosebumps. This weekend added plenty more of those moments.

Finally, THANK YOU to everyone who visited not just us but all of the venues taking part in Maryport Live. This weekend wasn’t about one pub, it was about a whole town coming together to celebrate live music for FREE.

Maryport, you absolutely smashed it. You supported local businesses, you supported local musicians, you looked after one another, you respected yourselves, respected our staff and respected everyone around you. That is something to be incredibly proud of.

Keep supporting your local pubs.

Keep supporting live music.

Keep making memories.

We are lucky enough to call this beautiful town home and after this weekend, we are reminded once again why we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

To tie in with a previous post that gained a little traction 🫢 The Script we are ready and waiting anytime you are for a gig at our incredible live music venue, we guarantee it will be a night to remember 😉.

From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU Maryport, Love Team Captain Nelson 🎶❤️.
