From a garage, to a shed, to the ground floor of a yoga studio… to opening our own place, expanding into a second building and opening a second shop.

Six years of growing, learning, adapting and figuring it out as we go.

Underneath all that growth - the heart of ROOTSTOCK has always stayed the same: good, honest living, nourishing food, health and wellbeing & community. Living a little more intentionally; knowing where our food comes from and choosing to put people and planet first wherever we can.

We’d be lying if we said it’s been easy. Keeping an independent business alive in this economy has been one hell of a rollercoaster, and probably the most challenging thing we’ve ever done (outside of motherhood 🫠) with highs, lows, plenty of lessons and moments that have really tested us.

Six years on, we’re still showing up and we still believe in what we’re doing.

ROOTSTOCK REPORT // Summer ‘26

We want to apologise - we know we’ve had a lot of hiccups of late and some big delays on stock, especially over in Bollington. And we’ve been closed in Alderley whilst we take a break. We’ve been working on some changes, including changes in opening hours to help us bounce back.

We experience a drop in sales usually within summer months understandably, as folks are on holiday and out of their usual routines. But this one has been tough. I’m sure you’ve all read about how hard it is to keep SME business heads above the water at the moment and we’re of no exception.

We’ve not been able to replenish stock at the rate that we usually do. We understand it’s frustrating, but please may we ask that you treat our staff members with kindness - we’re all doing the best we can, with the resources we have.

Myself and Meg, as well as working on the ground, are constantly working on how we can improve, but there’s just some values (below) that we refuse to compromise on. And so, I guess this is the backlash of our stubbornness.

👉 Food security within the UK is to say the least, worrying. So, we prioritise local and British farming.

👉 We don’t haggle. We pay our suppliers exactly what they ask for, in order to live within this country with the rest of us.

👉 We value the environment, and its ability to keep producing food for us for generations to come. So, we prioritise organic and regenerative produce.

👉 We value our health. So, we prioritise clean food products, bread made slowly by hand by June, and produce grown with care that isn’t laden with toxic chemicals (thanks to Greg and also Organic North)! Heck, even the coffee we make you is the cleanest around (thanks )

Our choices mean that our products undoubtedly are more costly. But, it’s the cost that we’ve always chosen to pay and at times, absorb, because the cost of us not abiding by the above values, we believe, is far greater.

Lastly, thank you. We wouldn’t be here without you & all of our incredible suppliers - we truly believe we’re doin it the hard way for a reason!

This will allow us to take a break and work on some changes.
