A Little Taste of Exmoor History…

There’s something rather special about enjoying a pint with a bit of history behind it — and Exmoor Gold certainly has a story to tell.

Exmoor Ales began brewing in Wiveliscombe, Somerset, in 1979, becoming one of the early pioneers of the microbrewery movement. Just a year later, their Exmoor Ale was named Champion Best Bitter at the Great British B**r Festival — with only their 13th brew!

Then, in 1986, Exmoor Gold was born — described by the brewery as the UK's first modern single-malt Golden Ale. At the time, its pale golden colour was something of a departure from the traditional darker British bitter, and it helped pave the way for the golden ale style we know today.

Fast forward a few decades and there's still something wonderfully simple about a proper pint of Exmoor Gold on a sunny afternoon.

So, while there’s still a little bit of summer sunshine hanging around…

THURSDAY NIGHT. SHANTIES. LET’S DO THIS.

Forget sitting at home pretending Thursday is a school night… Thirsty Thursday is happening at The Ancient Mariner!

From 8.30pm this Thursday, our legendary Lynmouth Shanty Crew will be taking over the pub and bringing the proper sea-dog chaos!

Expect big voices, loud choruses, plenty of pints and a whole lot of “one more song!”

You don’t need to know the words.
You don’t need to be able to sing.
You definitely don’t need to be a sailor.

Just bring yourself, your mates and your thirst — we’ll take care of the rest!
