Unfortunately, our extractor fan has suffered a mechanical failure and is currently out of service. We are awaiting a replacement unit, which we hope will arrive tomorrow.

In the meantime, we are able to serve drinks, cakes and a limited selection of starters, but we are unable to offer our full food menu until the new fan is installed.

We apologise to anyone whose booking has had to be cancelled this evening and for any inconvenience caused. We hope to be back to normal service tomorrow once the replacement fan has arrived and been fitted.

Thank you for your understanding.

Up next in Faces of Lyme is Larry Gibbons of Largigi Cafe' on the seafront — a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, serving up authentic Thai dishes alongside English classics, all with those stunning coastal views.

Larry has been in the news recently after successfully challenging Lyme Regis Town Council over what he believed were excessive charges for his outdoor tables and chairs. Following a long battle, the Council conceded last week that Marine Parade falls under the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, which caps fees at a maximum of £350, much less than the £4,500 or so Larry said he was being charged.

This is fantastic news for Larry and for everyone who enjoys sitting outside in the sunshine — soaking up the sea air, the fabulous views and a spot of people watching with a coffee or a bite to eat. ☀️☕

Town Council Backs Down on Pavement Licence Charges

I am delighted to confirm that I have received a letter from the Town Clerk this afternoon acknowledging that my position on pavement licence charges is correct.

The Town Clerk has conceded that pavement licence fees on Marine Parade are subject to the statutory caps set out in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023, and that the maximum charge payable should be no more than £350. It has also been acknowledged that the correct charging authority is Dorset Council, not Lyme Regis Town Council.

This has been a very long and frustrating battle, and it is disappointing that a sensible and lawful conclusion could not have been reached many months ago. Nevertheless, I welcome this confirmation and the clarity it finally provides.

I am extremely grateful to those who have offered guidance, support, and assistance throughout this process. They know who they are, and I could not have achieved this outcome without them.
