🛩️ Look up, Lyme - The Red Arrows are coming! 🔴⚪🔵

We have some exciting news...

Following the disappointment of the Red Arrows' cancelled display earlier this month, we're delighted to share that The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team is scheduled to make a flypast over Lyme Regis at 12.33pm this Saturday 29 August.

Lyme Regis is getting another chance to welcome the Reds back to our skies!

This won't be the full aerobatic display scheduled for Lifeboat Week, however, it will still be a fantastic opportunity to see the iconic planes soar over Lyme Bay... and we'll certainly be looking skywards for this one.

🗓️ Saturday 29 August
🕒 Scheduled for 12.33pm

If you're planning to come into town to catch a glimpse of the world-famous team, please allow plenty of time for your journey and expect Lyme Regis to be busy over the bank holiday weekend.

After nine years, even a fleeting visit from the Reds is something worth looking up for 🛩️

⚠️ Please remember: This is a scheduled flypast, not a full display. All RAF flying is subject to operational requirements, aircraft serviceability and weather conditions, and timings may change at short notice.

‼️BREAKING NEWS‼️

We are absolutely devastated to announce that the Red Arrows display on Sunday 16 August has been cancelled.

The RAF has confirmed the team remains in North America due to poor weather conditions and will be unable to fulfil its commitment to Lyme Regis and several other displays in the coming week.

All of us at Lyme Regis Town Council and RNLI Lyme Regis are extremely disappointed but we understand the safety of our military personnel is paramount and they must get home when it is safe to do so.

We are sorry to all of you, our residents, visitors and local businesses - we know how much everyone was looking forward to it.

The rest of the Lifeboat Week programme will go ahead as planned so please support all the great events that will be taking place, in this, their 200th anniversary year.

Update on the return of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team from Operation Eagle Hawk:

Following a highly-successful tour of the United States, the Red Arrows began a multi-stop journey back to the United Kingdom this week.

However, due to a prolonged period of forecasted poor weather in the north-eastern regions of Canada, the team is postponing its return Atlantic crossing until further notice.

The intention remains to fly the Red Arrows’ Hawk aircraft back to RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, and recommence the summer season as soon as the jets are recovered to the UK.

To make a resumption of displays more expedient, a period of planned post-tour engineering on the aircraft will now take place at CFB Goose Bay – where the jets are currently positioned – rather than at the team’s UK home.

Concurrently, a number of personnel that deployed on Operation Eagle Hawk, which began in June, will also take mandated mid-season leave with their families in the UK, to ensure they are sufficiently rested in time for the return journey and the remainder of the summer.

Crossing the North Atlantic with the single-engined Hawk – which cannot air-to-air refuel – requires extremely careful planning and the right conditions. At present, the weather is outside of operational limits and has already forced the team to turn back to Goose Bay on one sortie.

A buffer zone or grace period, after completing the final airshow in the US and returning to the UK via Canada, Greenland and Iceland, was always factored into the overall operation timeline to help mitigate potential weather delays as much as reasonably possible.

Safety is paramount to all decisions and will remain the only driver as to when the team continues the Atlantic trail.

The RAF is in contact with airshow organisers as part of its normal season dialogue and planning.

The entire Red Arrows team thanks enthusiasts and aviation fans on both sides of the Atlantic – and especially at home in the UK – for their continued support, enthusiasm and understanding.
