“Much like the beach it sits above, this is somewhere that a simple wooden swing becomes a highlight – a destination for the children after dinner, while the grown-ups enjoy the hotel’s own gin, distilled with pine from their trees, in a cocktail.”

Thank you Condé Nast Traveller for a rather lovely love letter to this salty, quietly addictive little bay.

If there is a better feeling than making your way upstairs with one last drink, feeling decidedly well-fed and content in the knowledge that tomorrow involves a full Cornish breakfast, morning coffee with a view, and day spent wandering Looe’s harbour streets, we’re yet to find it…

Double, double toil and trouble, there’s something terrifyingly delicious stirring at Talland.

As the sea mist rolls through and the nights draw in, sink your teeth into Halloween Afternoon Tea this October. Devour White Chocolate and Orange Scones, Witch’s Fingers, Mummy Financiers, Cherry Ghost Macaroons, and a Pumpkin Cheesecake to share, all conjured up against a backdrop of storied coves and smugglers’ tales.

Halloween Afternoon Tea at Talland is available from 13th to 31st October. Book your table before the witching hour ends 🦇

Date Night at Talland has a regular place in the diary: the last Thursday of every month. Consider this your standing invitation, if you will, to head out and let someone else worry about dinner.

For September, we’re leaning into classic date night territory with a sharing chateaubriand for two. Tangled forks in the fight for the final piece will be wholeheartedly encouraged…

Pencil Date Night at Talland in both your diaries, and meet us at a table by the sea on Thursday 24th September at 7pm. Get in touch to save your table 🍽️

The anatomy of a Talland Sunday 🔍

Coffee overlooking the bay. A walk to work up an appetite for Sunday roasts and sausages. One glass becoming two because nobody is driving home. A final stroll of the garden before bed, and a restful slumber, safe in the knowledge that Monday morning will look a lot more exciting this week.

If you’re looking for a sign to plan a Sunday stay in Cornwall this autumn, this is it.

We’re not wishing the last of the summer away. But this change in weather has had us thinking about open fires, storm-watching, indulgent dinners, red w**e, long baths, and the particular joy of returning from a coastal walk with pink cheeks…

Our Head Chef Glen Merriott didn’t exactly choose the kitchen. His mum dropped him at a pub on his last day of school, told him he had a job and, in his words, said: “Crack on.”

Thankfully, he did, because had he not, Talland wouldn’t have been nearly as tasty.

On the blog now, Glen shares his culinary career path, the Cornish produce that shapes his cooking now, and why autumn means roasting, braising, preserving and “proper cooking”.

Head to the website, have a read, then book a table to taste his cooking for yourself! 🍽️

We know. It’s August. Talk of Christmas feels wildly premature…

But there are some things that don’t particularly reward spontaneity, and disappearing to the Cornish coast for three days of ch*****ne, five-course dinners, sea air and absolutely no washing up is one of them ✨

Christmas at Talland brings mulled w**e and carols, festive feasts, our famous quiz, Boxing Day walks and plenty of time beside the fire. New Year’s Eve is a slightly more glamorous affair: glad rags, ch*****ne, Glen’s Gala Buffet, live music, dancing into 2027 and a Bloody Mary waiting on New Year’s Day.

Both our Christmas and New Year three-night stays are already limited, so consider this your entirely unapologetic nudge to start making plans.

Future you, holding a glass of fizz with the sea outside and no turkey tray to scrub, will be rather pleased you did.

A trio of taps, each with its reasons:

🍺 Asahi, because it is Jack’s favourite l***r (and when you write the drinks list, you get to make the rules…)

🍺 Proper Job, because it’s made not far from here and is arguably the best IPA you’ll find on draught in all of Cornwall

🍺 And Harbour, because it’s local, light and washes down a sea view particularly well

Take your pick or try all three. They were all made for Sundays like these, washing down lunch in the sun, while the sea does its thing a few feet from where you’re sitting. We’ll cheers to that! 🍻
