Packhorse Inn

Packhorse Inn Proper rustic country pub! And... we've just taken on the Monsal Head too; watch this space! Muddy boots, kids and dogs are all welcome.

This historic pub is regarded as one of the best in the Peak District. Situated just off the Monsal Trail, the pub is surrounded by some of the most striking scenery the Peaks have to offer. Settle down by the open fire or linger outside on sunny days to enjoy real ales and tasty food, locally sourced by the landlord. We look forward to welcoming you to our pub! (Bookings always advised due to the

size of the pub! Tel: 01629 640471)

EAT

Seriously fresh, seriously local, seriously good. As most people in Derbyshire can't walk 50 feet without encountering a cow, a pig, or a sheep, we didn't think it made a lot of sense to get them from anywhere else. Wild boar from local woods also appear on the menu as do buffalo from Eastmoor and venison from Round Green Farm. All the beef is reared two fields away and comes from Critchlows Farm Shop in Bakewell, the cheeses from the Hartington Cheese Shop and the bread and famous pudding from the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. We prepare all the food in our kitchen daily with regular changing specials and dessertsusing as much of Derbyshire's well stocked larder as we can. We also have a quirky tapas menu that features beef dripping and pork pie! DRINK

Serving a wide range of real ales and lagers, the Packhorse Inn is a fantastic place to come for a good honest pint. Black Sheep is a regular feature, and local beers include cask ales from the Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell. We always have three Thornbridge beers on and a fourth guest beer. Currently we have the old favourites Jaipur, Lord Marples and Wild Swan with this weeks guest Kipling. The wine list is concise, but effective, with the usual suspects offered by the glass or the bottle. A full range of spirits is also available as are tea and coffee. We have just been put into the 2012 Good Beer Guide, so pop in for a pint and try them for yourself! QUIZ

The ever popular Thursday night quiz provides participants with giggles, winners with wine, and charities with funds. For the price of £1, comedy quizmaster Gawney will amaze you with how little you know, and then make up for it with the ‘top dollar items' offered as prizes for the bonus picture round. We have just raised £3000 for Ashgate Hospice and will be collecting for numerous charities this year.

Having a strong, vibrant Malbec is crucial for us at the Pack for our usual celebration of steak!

The team at
have helped us select the Moro Mio for our Spring/ Summer menus. It’s bright, juicy, with strong blueberry flavours and a violet aroma. This was a favourite during our tasting and we can’t wait to share it.
