SENTIENT

Formed in 2018, Sentient are a 4 piece metal band based in Hertfordshire.
Considered one of the fiercest live bands in the home counties, Sentient mix technical riffs and down tuned breakdowns to create a heavy sound that dares to flirt with brighter textures.

Presenting a new line-up, Sentient raged into 2023 with a burst of shows, releasing a brand new EP “Sentient is Dead” and winning M2TM Masses Hitchin for a chance to play the New Blood stage at Bloodstock Festival.

Their EP ‘Sentient Is Dead’ was described as “a muscular piece of technical metalcore”
(Scream, Blast, Repeat) and the single ‘Gaslighter’ was showcased on both BBC Radio 1 during Alyx Holcomb’s Rock and Metal show and BBC Three Counties Radio during the BBC Introducing show.

Ok, if you come to the bar regularly you know we’ve had this one for a while but still! Here’s properly introducing the “CATvendo Tutus” T-Shirt 😸

“Cavendo Tutus” being the motto of The Dukes of Devonshire. It stands for “safe through caution” or “safe by being cautious” and has been on the coat of arms of this pub since it first opened its doors in the early 1900s. Our original hanging sign had to come down a few years ago. It’ll be back up eventually but for now here’s a small tribute to some of the old history of The Dev.

Elderstag is an emerging band from the Lisbon region, composed of Tiago Oliveira (vocals and bass), Gonçalo Assunção (guitar and vocals), João Pedro Carmo (guitar), and Marcos Gil (drums).
Elderstag promises a unique fusion of sounds. The band is influenced by various rock and metal subgenres, ranging from the most classic to the more modern. Their music offers captivating and intense melodies, with a solid dose of groove and heaviness.

OGIVES BIG BAND
Ogives Big Band is a riff powerhouse hailing from Bristol, UK. Initially forming as an instrumental trio with a view to expand the existing Øgïvęš solo material.
The addition of an established and furious rhythm section warped the compositions and song writing process into a new beast entirely. Featuring polyrhythmic soundscapes crashing into brutal breakdowns, blistering riffs melting into luscious ethereal drones, & an all encompassing sense of drive & menace.
