Persian tasting is here to stay at The Drunken Butler

Persian Summers saw The Drunken Butler introduce its Iranian feasting menu at the restaurant full-time in June (off the back of the restaurants sell-out Persian Sundays), allowing me to delve further into the archives of family recipes which has inspired it.

Following its popularity over the past three months and the true pleasure of creating a menu that stems from such personal nostalgia, I am proud to announce that our decision to take things fully Persian will become permanent. With plans to change-up and refine elements of our Persian dishes further, I look forward to sharing in more stories of my culinary heritage alongside an ever-evolving list of wines and cocktails within our Clerkenwell dining room which emulates the feel and atmosphere of a characterful family home.

This summer, we will be serving a Persian Feast every day (Thursday-Sunday) as our only menu offering.
Our Persian menu has always been cherished by our guests. Sharing dishes that are so close to my heart makes me incredibly happy and what I feel we need to bring to London during this time.
Book your table via the link in bio and join us. We can’t wait to welcome you. ✨

The name of the restaurant came from a story I heard when at Polesden Lacey, a National Trust house in Surrey. It was once a bit of a party house owned by a woman called Mrs Greville, who had a butler called Mr Bacon. She would host many dinner parties and Mr Bacon would polish off the bottles of alcohol and eat the food, getting tipsy as he went along. On one occasion he drank a bit more than usual and Mrs Greville sent him a note that read: ‘you are too drunk, you should leave the room’. The story goes that Mr Bacon looked at it, folded it back up and handed it to the guest of honour, statesman Austen Chamberlain, who was very offended. When Mrs Greville explained the situation, Chamberlain said he’d never before been told off by a drunken butler.
