Friday Mood!

For those who question adding water to paint!

Iā€™ve been fighting a ceiling and walls today,

No mistcoat, some kind of cheap Matt paint on walls and Iā€™m going over with a cleanable, durable (what ever you want to call it)

Even with 15% water added, the roller is dry after 2 passes..

The moisture is wicked away and then the pile on the roller picks up the heavy paint thatā€™s left after a pass or 2.. that leaves really heavy stipple. Same with cutting in.. brush marks for days..

If you havenā€™t tried adding water, please do and let me know how you get on..

As you can see from Laura's outfit, she doesn't listen to me at the best of times (BABE DON'T WEAR NICE CLOTHES)

So I thought it was best I brought her down to the experts at Dulux Academy to teach her the basics..

As a time served decorator of 23 years, It's easy to forget where I started and the fact I was once in Laura's shoes..

Not even knowing about sheen levels or the difference in durability of paints.

The day covered loads and I'd be happy to let Laura loose on a room in our house now..

Would it be perfect? Of course not, experience comes with time and perfection with practice however she has the fundamentals under her belt..

Iā€™ve done a million variations of how to fix a crack,
My inbox is flooded mostly with requests on this, so Iā€™ll keep posting different situations even tho the process is much the same,
You donā€™t know what you donā€™t know and thatā€™s ok..

Follow along for the most basic of decorating tips šŸ‘.

My fave products for this are
peel stop to seal the porous surfaces and stick the skrim tape which is by
The Glass Fabric Company Itā€™s so thin you might even be able to hit it in 1 fill but even if you canā€™t, the thickness of the filler is so thin it dries quick.
Toupret UK usually rock solid in the crack but fill flex is fine, followed by the joint&skim or TX110
Always Paint Warrior fine surface for the little odds n sods,
It dries quick for these small bits, doesnā€™t need spot priming and is super easy to sand back..

Up there with the best of 2026.

The plastering wasnā€™t the best and the spec wasnā€™t to make it perfect but bringing the sheen level down from an eggshell to Matt and changing the ceiling from white to match the walls has made a huge difference..

The colour is Pelt by Johnstone's Trade Paints
Cleanable Matt + Aqua Guard Matt for the woodwork.

All applied with sleeves & of course
Paint Warrior brushes (badger range) šŸ¦”

Also the fine surface filler by Paint Warrior for this one

Floor protection Antinox Floor Protection taktec .. dark purple over cream carpets šŸ¤Ø.

All sanding equipment by Mirka UK Ltd with the trio of the
Leros, Deros, Deos

Surely this could be a contender for the Golden Finish Awards šŸ˜
