Milroy's of Soho was founded by brothers, John & Wallace Milroy, in 1964 - fifty years later we continue to sell premium whiskies from Scotland and around the world. In December 2014 we became independent once again and began the process of giving the shop a much needed refurbishment. 2015 has seen us return with a refurbished shop, new stock, a whisky bar and a secret cocktail bar!

Same distillery. Same age. Two very different drams. 🥃

In this Cask Strength Conversation, we’re putting two Braeval 16 Year Olds side by side to explore how cask maturation can shape a wh**ky’s character - and how our new Soho Selection colour system helps guide you towards your flavour.

🔴 Rich & Robust — First-Fill W**e Port Barrique

Two casks, two flavour journeys. Which colour are you reaching for?

What do Cornish pasties, Stilton cheese, Melton Mowbray pork pies, and now English wh**ky have in common? They’ve all got protected Geographical Indication (GI) status!

This week, we’re raising a glass to the latter with two new arrivals from London Distillery Company: Yesteryear 6 Year Old London Single Rye and Golden Union English Blended Malt 😋🥃

17 years of decadence. 🥃

The Allt A Bhainne 17 Year Old 2008 is a rare find - and this one is something rather special. Matured for the full 17 years in a third-fill sherry butt, it brings together the distillery’s estery, spicy character with layers of rich dessert sweetness.

🍩 Cinnamon doughnuts & tiramisu
🍯 Honeycomb & sticky toffee pudding
🍫 Milk chocolate & gingerbread
🍓 Strawberries & raspberries
🌶️ Festive spice & cola cubes
🍏 Orchard fruit & toasted oak

Luxurious, intricate and unapologetically decadent.

The original, by name and by recipe. 🥃

Milroy’s Original is based on a blend recipe dating back to the 1960s - a little piece of Milroy’s history in every bottle.

On the nose, expect gentle fudge and poached pear, followed by chocolate-covered raisins, orange peel and coconut. The palate brings vanilla ice cream, apricot and Victoria sponge, with soft black pepper and milk chocolate underneath.

The finish is medium in length, with warming cinnamon, pepper and oak.

A classic style of Scotch, interpreted through a recipe with a distinctly Milroy’s history.

What would you pick out first - the fudge, fruit or spice? 👀

Hand-selected treasure from Islay. 🥃

Kilchoman recently celebrated 20 years of making wh**ky - a remarkable milestone for a distillery founded in 2005, when new Scotch distilleries were few and far between.

To mark the occasion, the Wills family have hand-selected the first release in the Kilchoman Family Collection: an 11-year-old, sherry cask-matured single malt that captures a piece of the distillery’s story.

A wh**ky with history, character and a very limited feel - straight from one of Islay’s most distinctive distilleries.

The first chapter of the Family Collection is here. 🥃

Cask Strength Conversions: Cask Finishes: Novelty or Innovation? 🥃

This week, wh**ky expert Kristy joins us to ask: Have cask finishes become a novelty, or are they driving real flavor innovation?

From PX sherry to tequila casks, we dive into where the line sits between enhancing a distillery’s core character and simply chasing trends. Plus, Kristy shares why “novelty” isn’t a bad word—as long as the quality in the glass stays exceptional.

Let us know your thoughts below!

Is novelty a bad thing if the quality is still there?
