The Sunday Lunch Club returns…

After a summer break, our Sunday Lunch Club is back on Sunday 20 September, and we’re delighted to welcome back Ellen Parr of to Exmouth Market.

Ellen was part of the Moro kitchen before going on to co-found Lucky & Joy, where her cooking draws on the food and flavours of China alongside her own experiences as a chef. For this special Sunday feast, she’ll be bringing those influences back to Moro, combining Lucky & Joy’s punchy, spice-led cooking with Moro’s wood-fired, Mediterranean and Moorish foundations.

Expect a generous sharing menu made for the middle of the table, with whipped tofu and Sichuan-style aubergine, scallop with XO sauce and zhoug, beef kofta dumplings with seedy chilli crunch, wood-roasted pork with tomato nam jim and shao kao, lamb ribs with tiger salad, flatbread, cumin and za’atar, harissa and more.

Join us from 1pm for a family style feast around shared tables.
Tickets are £60 per person plus service and include a welcome drink and the full feasting menu.

A vegetarian alternative can be provided with advance notice. Please email [email protected] if you’d like to discuss dietary requirements.

Tickets are now available via the link in our bio.

After a summer away, we’re very happy to have our Sundays back.

In Season at Moro: Chargrilled seabass with grilled aubergine & romero pepper salad

The grilled aubergine and romero pepper salad is a Moro classic. I still remember the first time we had this miraculous warm salad: at the Mangal Ocakbasi on Arcola Street in Stoke Newington. As well as the ubitquitous sis and adana kebabs, if you ask for patlican salata, they throw a couple of aubergines and peppers directly on the charcoal, until the skins are charred all over and the flesh is soft. Once peeled and chopped, they are seasoned with garlic, lemon and olive oil, and to finish 2 large dollops of Greek yoghurt and some hot caramelised chilli butter on top that sizzles as it touches the cool yoghurt. It is just divine with the meat and flatbread.

In Season at Moro: Cornish Bluefin tuna with confit onions, braised chard, chickpeas and oloroso sherry.
The tuna is from Newlyn, southern Cornwall. We lightly sear the loin, then add slow-cooked onions confit with fresh bay leaves and rich, nutty oloroso sherry. There have been 2 memorable occasions in Jerez where we have enjoyed this. Once with Miguel Valdespino from the famous Valdespino bodega and also from Milagros Flores, the mother of our great friend Lidia who prepared this dish with bonito and used half oloroso and half fino sherry. We serve this with chickpeas and rainbow chard. One of our favourite fish dishes.

Ajo blanco is a traditional Andalucian chilled soup made with almonds, often called the “original” or “white” gazpacho because it predates the arrival of tomatoes from the Americas. It is, in a bowl, an edible history of the region’s various culinary cultural influences throughout the ages. The Romans brought olive oil, the Moors introduced almonds, and the addition of grapes, melon or apples alongside the sherry vinegar, garlic and olive oil give acidity, sweetness and balance to the silky, almondy cream. It was considered the food of the people, cheap to make, refreshing and nourishing during hot summer months.
We top ours with white peaches as they are at their peak right now, while the sherry vinegar and lemon thyme bring all the flavours together.

In Season at Moro: When the small, succulent sultana grapes are in the market, there are a few dishes that immediately spring to mind. This Eastern Mediterranean seared beef salad is a joy. Rare strips of charcoal grilled sirloin are tossed with pearl barley, whole parsley leaves, sultana grapes, toasted almonds for crunch and a tart sumac dressing to balance the sweet grapes. Colourful, savoury & sweet.
