“Canbe laf baa ku jirta” or “Timir laf baa ku jirta!” The Somali proverb is actually “Timir laf baa ku jirta,” which translates to “There is a bone/pit in every date.” There are various interpretations of the proverb, but the one we resonate with most is that every worthwhile pursuit comes with its own challenges. Sometimes, even the sweetest things in life have something hard hidden within them.

That being said, we do have something sweet waiting for you. Our date cake is the perfect way to finish your meal, bringing together rich, sweet dates with a soft, comforting cake. Whether you’re sharing it with family and friends or saving room for something special, it’s a little taste of sweetness worth staying for.

Which Nafaqo are you going for?

Mashed sweet potato. Sautéed spinach. Mixed vegetables. Warm, comforting and full of flavour.

Then comes the difficult bit — Seabass, Salmon, Chicken Steak or Beef Steak.

A modern Somali take on a soulful classic.

Come hungry. Choose wisely.

Our culture has given us more than incredible food. It has also given us wisdom to carry with us, often passed down through Maahmaah (proverbs).

“Canbe laf baa ku jirta.”
Mango has a seed.

A simple Somali proverb that reminds us that even the sweetest things in life can have something hard at their centre. Good things often take patience, perseverance and a little work.

From the wisdom passed down through generations to the flavours we share around the table, our culture has always found a way to feed both the body and the soul.

Today, we’re serving that sweetness a little differently. 🥭

At Sabiib, people come for the food and leave full, but there are times when our service fulfils needs that go beyond what you and I can see.

We care. We are family, and that’s why we do what we do. Everyone has their own story, and everyone’s experiences are different.

Sabiib is a welcoming environment and a home to many. It is an honour and a blessing to be able to serve those who need it most.

Acton is a melting pot of so much culture, and we’re proud to be a part of it. The area is growing and flourishing, and the community is a big reason why we’re still here.

We appreciate and thank you all for welcoming us into the area and into your hearts. We hope to honour and maintain the trust we’ve built over the past few years and for many years to come.

Some drinks are ordered once. Others become part of the ritual.

Shani Crush has quietly become one of Sabiib’s guest favourites — cold, fruity, refreshing, and very difficult not to order again.

If you know, you know.
If you don’t, perhaps it’s time. 🥤

Sabiib means “raisin” in Somali, but in a poem called Sirta Nolosha (“The Essence of Life”) by Maxamed Ibraahim Warsame “Hadraawi”, may Allah grant him Jannah, the raisin becomes something much more.

Hadraawi finds the essence of life in something as humble as a handful of raisins. Their sweetness is not only in the fruit, but in the hands that grow them, the hands that gather them and the hands that open and share them.

Like a small offering passed around a Somali gathering, what is little in itself can become abundant when shared. Perhaps the sweetest thing we can possess is not what we keep, but what we give, and the people we gather around it.

That is why we call ourselves Sabiib.

And since the beginning, our rice has always been served with raisins, a small part of the plate, but one that carries the meaning behind our name.

Somewhere to call our own.

As the community has grown, so has the need for spaces that feel like they belong to us.

A place to gather. To celebrate. To bring the family. To mark the moments that matter — and sometimes, simply to sit around a table together.

Sabiib was built to fill that gap.

Not just a restaurant, but a space shaped by the people who walk through its doors.

From everyday meals to big occasions, the tables keep filling and the community keeps growing.

This is Sabiib. Come and be part of it.

Breakfast, in three acts.

Past. Present. Future.

The plate changes. The feeling doesn’t.

No rush. No distractions. Just good food, hot Shaah, and a moment worth taking, shared around the table, or quietly enjoyed on your own.

Somali breakfast, the Sabiib way.

Come hungry. Take your time. Start the day properly.
