Hey Guys,

Just want to wish you all a wonderful new year when it comes round. I hope 2025 is filled with happiness and health.

My time in Lockerbie is now over after 8 years, with 3 amazing years of those opening and serving Lockerbie in Kettle-Home.

On that note, knowing what the past 12 months have been like running a small business, I want to urge you all to support your local independent food businesses as best you can.

The cost of running a business like this has been crazy for me, and I know other businesses alike will probably be feeling the pressure. Pricing being the main issue and trying to figure out what to charge just to stay open, not only staying open but keeping and supporting their employees in a job.

Food prices are only going up, and the outlook is bleak, these prices are only going to continue to rise and it’s small businesses like this that suffer the most.

I wish my fellow young entrepreneurs in the area the best of luck for the future, and I hope they can continue to succeed.

Hello!

We are seeking people within the community who are looking to make a difference within the village, and extending rural communities.

We are now looking to create a committee for a community group to take lead in continuing what I have started.

This will be on a voluntary basis until such times financial stability for St Mungo Hall has been achieved.

As most are aware, I will be giving up the shop after the season. This does not necessarily mean it’s the end.

When I started Kettle-Home, the idea behind it was to build a community hub, and get the hall used on a more regular basis for hires and events to make it financially self sustaining. This has not changed. We have regular hires through winter, and in the summer months.

If a committee and constitution can be agreed, I’m willing to donate everything within the coffee shop to give it the best start. I will oversee the training required for people to run a coffee shop if that’s the route you wish to follow.

Hello!

I am writing with some news.

It’s been an amazing 3 years building Kettle-Home to what it is now. The rollercoaster of ups and downs has been a learning curve.

Starting a business from nothing has been one of the most challenging things I have accomplished in my life so far.

The business would not be in its current form without the amazing customers that have supported us from the start, up to the people who come in now. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know my regular customers.

The shop has been a hub for so many to come in and grab a chat with anyone who may be in.

We have taken a quiet dormant hall and turned it in to something amazing, from supporting local crafters at markets, Art for All sessions, selling art from the shop and many more on that list I could add. St Mungo Hall has been revived.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, I am unable to continue to operate the shop in its current format. This is not a decision I have taken lightly, and it’s been a to and fro for a couple of months.

It’s a great sadness to me that I have to give up my business, but ultimately I need to do what’s best for me.

A special thanks to Castlemilk & Corrie Estates for the support they have provided, to which the shop would not be without.

We have a cold couple of weeks ahead of us by the looks of things. Why not come keep warm!

I haven’t posted any pictures of Christmas sandwiches, they sell out pretty quickly, but will try Wednesday.

We will have the board games, cards and a firm favourite…uno, to see us out.

Flipping tables in frustration will not be tolerated 👀
