Leaving Christianity does not always mean leaving its fear behind.

Sometimes the language simply changes. Sin becomes “bad karma”, Hell becomes the Threefold Law, and divine punishment becomes “the universe teaching you a lesson”. The same old fear is still sitting underneath it all, wearing a pentacle instead of a cross.

Witchcraft should help you question inherited beliefs, not quietly rebuild the same prison with prettier stones.

People pick up the little cast iron cauldrons in the shop and ask me the same question surprisingly often: “What am I actually meant to do with it?”

The cauldron has become such a familiar symbol of witchcraft that people sometimes forget it was a useful household vessel long before it was a magical one. It held food, water and whatever needed heating over a fire. It took separate ingredients, contained them and changed them into something new. You can see why witches recognised power in that.

Cauldrons appear throughout Welsh and Irish mythology, but not always in the way modern books suggest. The Cauldron of Rebirth in the story of Branwen restores dead warriors, although they return unable to speak. Ceridwen’s cauldron belongs to a different tale and produces the three drops of wisdom eventually received by Gwion Bach. The Dagda’s cauldron, meanwhile, represents abundance and nourishment because nobody leaves it unsatisfied.

In modern witchcraft, a cauldron can be used for burning petitions, holding offerings, scrying with water, burning incense, building prosperity workings or containing banishing magic. Personally, I think its greatest strength is exactly that: containment. Whatever you place inside has a boundary while it is being transformed.

Just make sure the cauldron is genuinely safe for whatever you intend to do. Decorative vessels are not automatically fireproof, and cast iron should not be left sitting full of water unless you have a particular fondness for rust.

I’ve written a full guide to cauldron magic, its mythology, symbolism and practical ritual uses on the Solitary Morrigan blog:

🔮 Saturdays at Witch Haus 🔮
Every Saturday at Witch Haus, Cerys will be in the shop offering tarot readings throughout the day.
Whether you’ve got something weighing on your mind, need clarity on a situation, or just feel drawn to sit with the cards for a while, readings are available in a relaxed and welcoming space surrounded by candles, crystals, herbs, and incense.
Some people come with specific questions. Others just come to see what the cards want to bring forward. Either way, it’s always an experience.
Walk-ins are welcome, but Saturdays can get busy, so if you’re planning to come down, earlier is usually best.
There’s something very special about tarot readings by the sea on a Saturday afternoon.

Tomorrow’s solar eclipse is going to be an exceptionally powerful one, and not simply because the Sun and Moon are meeting in Leo.

On 12 August 2026, the eclipse carries the proud, fiery energy of Leo, but it is also tied to the South Node, making this a moment of release as much as transformation. This is about letting go of old identities, outdated expectations and the need to keep proving yourself to people who were never going to recognise your worth in the first place.

The surrounding planetary energy makes it even stronger. Venus, Uranus and Pluto form a Grand Air Trine, bringing attraction, sudden change and deep transformation together. Mercury, Neptune and Pluto open intuitive channels, while Saturn retrograde asks us to look honestly at the foundations beneath our ambitions. Mars squaring Neptune adds power, but it also makes clear intention essential. This is not an energy to throw vaguely at whatever happens to be bothering you.

Here in Liverpool, the eclipse begins at around 6.13 pm, reaches its maximum at approximately 7.10 pm and ends at about 8.04 pm. Although we will not see totality, roughly 91.8% of the Sun will be covered, which is still an extraordinary sight and a very strong magical current to work with.

Personally, I think this eclipse is best used for releasing an old version of yourself, reclaiming confidence, breaking unhealthy patterns and stepping into something that feels more honest. You can charge candles, oils, jewellery or water beneath its influence, but please remember never to look directly at the Sun without proper certified eclipse glasses.

I’ve written a complete guide explaining the astrology, the magical meaning and exactly how to carry out a timed eclipse ritual:

🌿 Handcrafted, locally grown mugwort smudge sticks 🌿

These have been grown locally, gathered and bound by hand, then carefully dried to create beautiful, completely natural smudge sticks.

Mugwort has long been used in witchcraft for cleansing, protection, divination, dream work and strengthening psychic awareness. It’s particularly lovely to burn before tarot readings, spirit work, meditation or ritual, when you want to clear the atmosphere and open your intuition.

Each one is individually handmade, so there will always be slight natural differences between them. Available now from Solitary Morrigan’s Witch Haus.
