The East Gate of Roman Lincoln 🏛️

Did you know that we have a preserved piece of history on our grounds that was excavated between 1963 and 1966?

The stone ruin is one of two semicircular towers that make up the North Tower (the other located under the road); built in the early 200s.

You can see by the artist's impression how the gate may have looked in the year AD 300.

The wooden posts inside of the tower show that this is not the first gate located on this spot, and actually started with a wooden gate to the Roman fortress built in about AD 60.

If you haven't seen it already; this is just one of the many reasons to visit our lovely hotel.
