Whitelock’s Ale House

Whitelock’s Ale House Legendary Leeds pub est. 1715. Described by John Betjeman as "the very heart of Leeds" Whitelock's is the oldest pub in Leeds.
(1822)

Originally opened as The Turk's Head in 1715, it was renamed in the 1880s by then owner John Lupton Whitelock as Whitelock's First City Luncheon Bar. Under new ownership since May 2012, we have preserved the rich history and charm that has always been the cornerstone of Whitelock’s, while infusing it with new life and and our passion for great service, food and drink. We serve a wide selection of

real ale and craft beers – many from Yorkshire breweries – alongside a menu of fresh, home-cooked and locally sourced food available seven days a week.

You’ve been thinking about lunch since 10:30, haven’t you?

Might we suggest slow-cooked Sykes House Farm | Chef’s Butcher beef, homemade suet pastry, mustard mash and seasonal vegetables?

Our beef & ale pie was last week’s bestseller.

Do with that information what you will 👀

Sarah’s pint of choice this week!

She’s gone for Little One by . A small, independent family-run brewery down in Cornwall.

It’s a rustic 3.4% table beer made for easy drinking and a few leisurely pints, very nice indeed.

Look at these old gems we have in the archives! The mighty in it's earlier life…

There was a time when you couldn't go far in a British pub without seeing those double D's, and the beer really hit its stride after the war. By the late '50s it was Britain's best-selling bottled beer.

Bottled, canned and eventually on draught… it was everywhere. A Double Diamond works wonders!

Plenty of you will remember it the first time around, and we're very happy to have it back in pride of place on the Whitelock's bar 🍻

Meg's choice this week!

She’s gone for Bad Kitty Porter, if you like your darker beers on the indulgent side, this is a good one for you.

5.5% with plenty of chocolate and vanilla running through it! Pouring now on the guest taps.

We first opened our doors in 1715. 61 years before the US declared independence, more than a century before Queen Victoria took the throne.

311 years later, plenty has changed around us, but step through the doors and there are still little pieces of that history everywhere you look 🖤

A pub is only ever as good as the people who fill it, and we're very lucky to have had plenty of you through our doors over the years.

If you think Whitelock's deserves a place in The Good Food Guide's 100 Best Pubs 2026, we'd love your support!
