Mermaid Fish Restaurant

Mermaid Fish Restaurant The Mermaid Fish Restaurant offers a service which better reflects the growing expectations of our c This ethos is one which The Mermaid fully supports.

A Fish & Chip Restaurant the offers a variety of tradition English food with both a restaurant and take out area. Our History
Constructed as a restaurant by J Pullan & Sons Ltd in the early 1970s, the business was bought by the current owner's father in 1981 and refocused as a fish & chip restaurant with out-sales. Throughout the rest of the decade the restaurant established its reputation for hig

h quality fish & chips and a position in the market as a destination known simply as 'The Mermaid'. In 1997, the restaurant passed from father to son and a fourth generation of fish & chip owner-operators was born. The Lodge family's pursuit of excellence in the provision of fish & chips began in the 1930s and Richard Lodge now continues the family tradition. To this end he has worked hard to secure and maintain a reliable and sustainable supply of quality fish at a fair price he can pass on to his customers. In conjunction with our Yorkshire based fish supplier, Richard has developed a working relationship with some of Iceland's largest suppliers of frozen-at-sea fish. With a limited range of natural resources, Iceland's economy is heavily dependent on the success of their fishing fleet. Accordingly they have a vested interest in maintaining healthy and sustainable fish stocks in their waters. In February 2010 we refurbished our kitchen and staff areas. We invested in a 'state of the art' frying range, installed specialist cooking equipment and appointed two experienced chefs. We sent our Head Chef to Reykjavik to further his already extensive experience by working at the 'Thrir Frakkar', perhaps Iceland's most famous seafood restaurant. Since then we have been developing a menu which better reflects the growing expectations of our customers. The Mermaid 2011 menu includes a range of dishes new to the restaurant which we consider to have remained or become part of a wider traditional British menu. To compliment the fish and seafood based dishes our reputation has been built on, we have now sourced some of the finest quality produce available in Yorkshire today to enable us to provide a number of meat and vegetable dishes of a standard comparable with our fish & chips.
