Jamaica Inn Ghost Hunting Investigation Page

Jamaica Inn Ghost Hunting Investigation Page We are the Jamaica Inn paranormal team, who exclusively run public and private paranormal nights at the world-famous Jamaica Inn, Cornwall.

Jamaica Inn, Cornwall's legendary coaching house, immortalised in Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name, has stood high on Bodmin Moor for over four centuries. We're still referred to by historians as Cornwall's most famous smuggling inn. These days we do welcome the more salubrious guest ... and the odd ghost! Jamaica Inn was built around 1750/60 as a dwelling house for John Broad. By 1778, extensions were added and it became the Jamaica inn where travellers made the journey between Launceston and Bodmin. Remote and isolated, it quickly became the ideal place to stop for smugglers transporting illegal goods into Devon and onwards. Jamaica Inn now is home to one of the finest and most extensive collections of smuggling artefacts in the UK at our Smugglers museum. In 1930, Jamaica Inn was visited by author Daphne du Maurier, who was inspired to write her most famous novel by the atmosphere and history of the inn. Fans of the novel now travel from all over the world to visit the Inn and our fantastic Daphne du Maurier museum. With all of this history, it comes as no surprise that Jamaica Inn is considered one of the most haunted buildings in Cornwall. In fact, when the TV show Most Haunted featured Jamaica Inn, they said that it was one of the spookiest programmes that they have ever recorded. Guests have reported seeing and hearing things that cannot be explained, and now many stay with us with the hope of seeing something for themselves! Spend the night in one of our famous haunted hotel rooms, enjoy our superb food for lunch or simply stop for real ale with your dog by our open fire!

What stories still linger behind the doors of Jamaica Inn?

This Friday, I’m joined by Karin Beasant and Lisa Holman to journey beyond the familiar legends and into the Inn’s remarkable history, folklore, ghost reports, and forgotten stories — drawing on more than a decade of research behind their book, Jamaica Inn:

We love our ghosts here at Jamaica Inn.
Mary Downing holds a special place in our heart.
She sued the Landlord, Thomas Dunn in 1834, as they had a son out of wedlock.
He was already married!

What a whirlwind weekend it was at Jamaica Inn!

On Friday night, we welcomed the most wonderful guests for our public paranormal investigation.
We experienced some fascinating activity, including a child’s giggle in Room 3 and a growl in Room 6.

We always say that it is often the little, subtle things that make investigating Jamaica Inn so special.

Our apologies—we were having such a busy evening that we completely forgot to take photographs!

On Saturday afternoon, 37 members of the public attended Karin’s talk about the history and ghosts of Jamaica Inn.
Afterward, 25 people purchased our book, Jamaica Inn: The History, Hauntings and Folklore, from the Gift Shop, with a queue waiting to have their copies signed by authors Lisa and Karin.

What an incredible response—thank you!

The weekend continued on Saturday evening with a private paranormal team hire lasting until 3am.
They were a wonderful team, and it was a pleasure to welcome them to the Inn.

Also, a grateful thank you to team member Kim, who was amazing at sorting out the public for the talk, taking them to the gift shop, and being such a wonderful host.

A busy, memorable, and truly special weekend at Jamaica Inn. Thank you to everyone who joined us! šŸ‘»šŸ“š
