DID YOU KNOW?

Glen Clova has its own legend of a disappearing piper...

At Cullow, near the entrance to the glen, lies a place known as Piper’s Hillock.

Local folklore tells of a piper who entered a cave there while playing his pipes.

As he ventured further underground, the sound of the pipes became quieter and quieter until eventually they faded into silence.

The piper was never seen again.

Whether the cave ever existed remains a mystery. Searches of Piper’s Hillock have failed to uncover it, although it has been suggested that changes to the land over the years may have removed any trace of an entrance.

Today, Piper’s Hillock is still there — and even gives its name to the cemetery on the site.

A piper, a lost cave and a centuries-old Glen Clova mystery...
