Unique wine event - limited places
We are pleased to announce a rather special wine tasting, being held on Tuesday 14th July at 7pm. The event is centered on Soalheiro and their award winning Alvarinho.
We have managed to secure some rare back vintages, some limited edition bottles and award winning vintages.
Soalheiro were pioneers, being the first family to plant the Alvarinho grape variety in the area back in 1974. Today, still family owned, they continue to produce the area’s bench-mark Alvarinho.
This is a very special tasting, which is almost impossible to run again, due to the scarcity of some of the wines.
We will explore the effects of weather, bottle age, extended time on lees, and even wines produced from the families first vines planted in 1974.
There will be a minimum of 6 wines, served with nibbles. Graeme will guide us through the wines with harvest/vintage data provided by the wine maker.
This special tasting is just £40 per person, with tickets being available at Avanti from tonight!

Dave Day!
Free pint for anyone called Dave!
Today we remember, with a smile, the life of Graeme’s brother Dave. He was a bit of a wild card, a joker in the pack, maybe a little unconventional. As kids we were spoilt to holidays to caravans in Anglesey, St Bees & Ponderosa! When package holidays began we were lucky enough to go to Spain, Yugoslavia & Bulgaria. They were always fun and Dave would lead me astray far too often. As a teenager I would end up being taken to the local pub, for a lock-in and play poker. I was taken to nightclubs such as Cats Whiskers, Peppermint Place, Chaplins, Tokyo Joes, Silvers and The Wigan Pier. This led to our love of music, particularly live music and we used to travel throughout the UK to watch bands like Kiss, Hanoi Rocks, The Heartbreakers, Motörhead, Hawkwind, Saxon, UFO, Gary Moore, Styx, Toto, Judas Priest, Wrathchild, Saga and Dave’s favourite Rush. We also became weekly visitors to the early days of The Haçienda.
The Toto gig reminds me of something that likely wouldn’t happen today. I was just 15, Dave 18 or 19, the two of us went to London on a coach. Stayed in a B&B in Hammersmith, went for a night out. The following night we went to The Apollo and watched the most amazing gig, marking the launch of Toto IV. Still now songs like Africa and Rosanna remind me of that little trip.
So, if you are genuinely called Dave, please call into Avanti today, have a pint on Graeme and remember your antics as a kid.

To mark Avanti’s 25th year, we have secured a parcel of rare 25 year old Colheita Port, crafted in 2001 just like Avanti!

Colheita is our favourite style of Port. Think of it as a single vintage Tawny Port, aged longer in the barrel, and cellared in the bottle until release.

They are exceptionally delicious! Nutty, rich, sweet, unctuous.

Available now at the bar, and remember all our dessert & fortified wines are served in generous 100ml measure! Anything smaller is just not worth it!
