Full-Time Permanent Bistro & Store Assistant
Oaklake Store & Bistro is looking for a friendly, reliable and hardworking individual to join our growing team in a permanent full-time role.
Key Responsibilities:
Serving customers and taking orders front of house
Preparing and cooking meals to order from our bistro menu
Replenishing stock and maintaining displays
Delivering excellent customer service
Maintaining cleanliness and food hygiene standards
Assisting with the day-to-day running of both the store and bistro
Working Pattern:
Full-time permanent position
Rota covering Sunday to Saturday
Must be flexible and available to work weekends and evenings as required
Essential Qualities:
Friendly, enthusiastic and customer-focused
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable, punctual and hardworking
Flexible approach to working hours
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Previous retail, hospitality or catering experience is beneficial but not essential as full training will be provided

For a lot of people living with PTSD and C-PTSD, finding a workplace that feels safe is not a small thing.

It can be the place where confidence starts to come back, where there's a reason to get up or where people notice if you're having a hard day, and nobody makes it awkward. That alone can be a huge part of someone's recovery.

So when a workplace like that goes a step further and starts raising awareness too, it's really quite something.

One of our supporters told us recently that this is exactly what the team at Oaklake Store & Bistro has been for them:

"Oaklake Store & Bistro has become my safe and happy place. It has helped me rebuild confidence, find purpose, and be part of a supportive team"

A few months ago, they asked us a question. Could the whole team wear PTSD UK t-shirts, with the bistro's own logo alongside?

We were delighted to say yes, and here's the loveliest part: that phoenix design is theirs. CeW66 entered our t-shirt design competition and won, and it's gone on to become one of the most popular designs we've ever printed. This is someone who has already walked across hot coals at our Firewalk, and who has written words that went into our books., and now their own design is being worn every day by the team around them.

"The shirts represent much more than clothing; they represent friendship, understanding, belonging, and the positive journey we have shared together."

Awareness of PTSD and C-PTSD doesn't only happen during campaigns, or on awareness days, or when there's a story in the news. It now also happens on a wet Tuesday afternoon when someone orders a coffee, spots a phoenix on a t-shirt, and asks what it means. Sometimes that person is simply curious. Sometimes that person is quietly struggling and has never said the words Post Traumatic Stress Disorder out loud to anybody.

That conversation wouldn't have happened without these t-shirts. Multiply it by every customer who walks through that door, every day, for as long as those shirts are worn, and that's a huge amount of awareness raised.
