Scarista House

Comfortable, elegant small hotel with restaurant open to non residents. Self catering cottage. More Winner of 2012 Good Hotel Guide Cesar Award.

Scarista House is one of the most beautiful and remote places to stay in Britain, with lovely views of the Atlantic Ocean, heather-covered mountains, and a three-mile long sandy beach. There has been a tradition of hospitality at Scarista House for a couple of hundred years. In former times the minister who lived in this Georgian manse, now a Grade B listed building, would have played host to visiting members of his congregation; now it is a comfortable small hotel where guests can enjoy traditional comfort in well-furnished guest rooms, open fires in the sitting rooms and natural, skilled cooking and good wines in the dining room. A large self-catering cottage, also with an open fire, is also available. Listed in the Michelin Guide, Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay and 3rd place in the Sunday Times Ultimate 100 British and Irish Hotels. We serve dinner at the set time of 7.30pm each night. Dinner consists of a set menu with no choice, however, we are more than happy to cater for dietary requirements/food dislikes, if informed in advance. The cost of dinner is £58 per person for 3 courses and £66 per person for 4 courses. Booking is essential. We do not serve lunches, but we do serve afternoon tea. Afternoon tea consists of our homemade oatcakes with crowdie, filled sandwiches, homemade scones with fresh cream & homemade jam, homemade shortbread & cake along with loose leaf teas, herbal infusions or ground coffee. The cost of afternoon tea is £18.50 per person, and is served between 3.30pm and 4.45pm, booking is essential for non-residents.

Luckily the power cut this evening occurred after we had served the main course. Most of our guests didn’t notice.
