Our pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and many more, are at the heart of our communities.

They bring people together and bring life to our cities, towns and villages, but they're under huge pressure from rising costs.

In the UK, you pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your meal out or stay away. In France, Spain and Italy, it's 10%. In Germany? 7%.

More and more hospitality businesses are closing. It's important to speak up now about the challenges we face - it's becoming so difficult to be profitable.

Our message to Government is simple. Let's stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality.

So this happened. We won an award!🏆

Not just an award, but an award voted for by you - the people who have been supporting us before we even reopened.

Lots of you will know our story, but in case you don't - Velocity closes, Rebecca and River get together and have the idea to reopen, we open a crowd fund, find investors, hire back old staff and find new faces, give the cafe a face-lift, and reopen the doors.

And you guys came out to support us.

We want to thank every single one of you. The investors, those who donated. Those who gave time to help us, family and friends and strangers. Regulars who came back and those who are new who keep coming back. Staff who returned and staff who joined us along the way. The staff who only stayed a while and went on to new pastures - Danielle, Emily, Anna, Elliot, Susie, Theo, we haven't forgotten about you!

We are here because of you. Roots is about community, great food and coffee, creativity and welcoming vibes, and we owe that to you.

And me? (River). I want to especially thank Rebecca, for being the best support I could have asked for. Thank you, you legend 🩷
