Job Title: Kitchen Porter / Kitchen Assistant
Reports to: Head Chef
Location: Mill Green, Ingatestone, Essex
Hours: Full-time
Pay: Minimum Wage
Job Purpose
To support the kitchen team by keeping the kitchen clean, organised and running efficiently, while assisting with basic food preparation and general kitchen duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, clean and sanitise pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Keep kitchen areas, floors, work surfaces and storage areas clean and tidy.
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation when required.
- Prepare vegetables, salads and other simple ingredients as directed.
- Ensure crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment are available when needed.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste correctly.
- Assist with deliveries, including checking, storing and rotating stock.
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety procedures at all times.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Help the kitchen team during busy service periods.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties required by the Head Chef or management.
Person Specification
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Good attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Able to work calmly and efficiently in a busy kitchen.
- Willing to learn and take direction.
- Previous kitchen experience is desirable but not essential as full training can be provided.
- Food hygiene knowledge or certification is an advantage.
