Apologies for being quiet online recently. The mailing out of baby plants has begun. This week it's tomato, cucumber and courgettes. Aubergine and chillies should join them next week. There will be a break around Easter, as we fear plants stuck in the post over the long weekend would suffer.

It's going to be a late start for us today. Office/ shop should be open by midday.
Apologies for the inconvenience.

Nasty storm on its way. Stay safe, warm, and fingers crossed greenhouses and tunnels survive.
Always a worry....

We have an announcement, this is the 'Thagomizer' Chilli. It has just been released. It is one only for the real enthusiasts. It takes longer than most to mature. In ideal condition, over winter the plants, an get a whopping harvest in year 2.
This is something, a project we have been working on for some years. Now why? You ask, well tested in '23 a batch of 10 De-Seeded pods, recorded 1,720,000Scovilles!!! So that's hotter than the Carolina Reaper over 10 pods!!
Please not that I am wearing laboratory gloves, needed.
Seeds on the website, fairly limited supply.
Also, if you are a member of the many chilli groups on FB, please share.

This Saturday, the 29th, is the really rather wonderful Frost Fayre in Glastonbury. I've been busy cooking up lots of chilli sauces. This summers hot weather has given us some rather hot chillies too.
So, pop along, enjoy a fabulous day. The event if free, maybe pay for parking...great music and try some of the dozen hot sauces I've made.

This is Primabella, a delicious cherry with good blight resistance. It was a real highlight of what was a great summer for tomatoes.

Here is a little piece on seed saving, the tomatoes pictures in the bowl are Black Russian, a heritage variety we save seeds from.
Here is the process, we let them get a bit more ripe than usual, to the point of splitting, then the seeds and pitch are scraped out.
Now the fun begins, this 'mess' goes into a sieve and water runs though it, this serves to wash away much of the jelly.
Next, this slightly cleaner mess, goes into a glass vessel, usually an old coffee jar... and a solution of acid and pectinase enzyme is added for at least 24 hours, sometimes as long as 48 hours, depending on what we are seed saving.
Next they are washed in running waters and then it is on to drying, drying is done on a sheet of glass.
When dry we get what I like to call 'cake', a thin layer of seeds, this is then rubbed between the palms to break them up. Following on from this is a germination test, we aim for a minimum of 80%.
Happy growing.

We have a busy weekend coming up. We have stalls with our sauces at the Trowbridge Weavers Market on Saturday and on Sunday, we'll be at the Frome Showground Flea Market & Craft Fair.
Even better news, this summers nice weather has meant that we have a harvest from our Rocoto Chillies and have a batch of our 'Snuffling Badger' sauce on sale.
Pop along, say hello and try some 'Badger.
