I came across this video from another fish and chip shop owner today, and if I’m honest, it really got to me. ❤️

Everything he said spoke straight from the heart, and I felt every single word of it. Running a chippy isn’t just frying fish and serving chips – it’s the long hours, the constant worry, the rising costs, trying to keep prices fair, looking after your staff, and doing everything you can to keep the doors open for the community you love.

Sometimes people only see the finished meal wrapped up at the counter, but behind it are real people who pour their hearts into their businesses every single day.

To this fellow fish and chip shop owner – thank you for saying out loud what so many of us have been feeling. You’re not alone. There are so many of us fighting the same battles, celebrating the same little wins, and doing our absolute best for our customers.

And to our customers, thank you. Every order, every kind word, every recommendation and every bit of support means more than you’ll ever know.

I am still completely gobsmacked by all of this. To see Meltham Fisheries featured on page 3 of The Examiner is something I never could have imagined. I never dreamed that my little gem of a chippy would make it into the news.

The past few days have been overwhelming in the very best way. The love, support, kind comments and encouragement from our customers, the local community and even people further afield have meant more to me than you’ll ever know.

A huge thank you to my incredible staff, who work so hard behind the scenes every single day. I couldn’t do this without you. And to every single customer who walks through our doors, shares our posts, recommends us to friends, and supports our small business – thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I promise I will continue to work as hard as I can for all of you, to keep serving the fish and chips you know and love and to make Meltham Fisheries a place our community can be proud of.

Wow… I genuinely don’t know what to say.

When I wrote yesterday’s post, I never imagined it would reach so many people or spark so many conversations. The support, kind words, and understanding you’ve all shown have been completely overwhelming.

As a small independent fish and chip shop owner, some days can be tough, and you often wonder if people really understand the challenges businesses face. Yesterday proved that they do.

I’m incredibly grateful to every single person who took the time to comment, share, like, or simply read the post. Your support means more than you’ll ever know.

To then be contacted by the local newspaper was something I certainly wasn’t expecting!

Thank you for supporting Meltham Fisheries, supporting local businesses, and for helping us continue doing what we love every day.

Hi everyone,

For those who don’t know me, I’m the owner of Meltham Fisheries.

Running a chippy isn’t just about frying fish and chips. It’s early mornings, long days, rising costs, paperwork, cleaning, ordering stock, and constantly trying to make sure every customer leaves happy. It’s hard work, but it’s something I genuinely love doing.

The fish and chip industry is facing some huge challenges right now. What was once considered an affordable takeaway has, sadly, become more of a luxury treat for many families. Rising costs across fish, potatoes, packaging, energy and just about everything else have put pressure on chippies across the country. Many shops are struggling, and some have even had to close their doors.

That’s why I’m always looking for ways to offer great quality food at the best possible value. One of those ways is by introducing Coley alongside our traditional haddock. Coley is a delicious flaky white fish from the cod family, and it allows us to offer a more affordable option without compromising on quality.

Every decision I make is with our customers in mind. I know times are tight, and I want Meltham Fisheries to remain a place where families can still enjoy a proper fish and chip supper without breaking the bank.

Most importantly, I want to say thank you. Every customer who walks through our door, places an order, leaves a review, likes a post, or recommends us to a friend helps support a small local business. It genuinely means more than you know.
