Afternoon folks, just a quick explanation as to why the cafe is not opening for breakfast again this weekend-
Since Easter, we have tried to give it a go in the hope that it pays off…..
The main issue as far as making it viable, seems to be the small window of opportunity we have to physically take money……
As the cafe is my little side hustle, we obviously have to stop serving food when the pub opens, so not detracting from pub sales. Therefore we have to stop cooking at 11.45am so Georgia can get the kitchen ready for lunch orders from 12. The problem is, everyone who wants breakfast is coming between 10.30 and 11.30am. So you see, even if there was a queue of 100 people down the car park, we can only physically serve/cook about 20ish orders, then we would have to say ‘sorry, can’t take any more orders’ due to time.
So anyway long story short……
20 x breakfast/coffee = £275
Minus VAT = £55
Minus cost of food = £95
Minus wages = £105
Equals £20 profit and that’s with me increasing my working day from 12 hrs to 14.5hrs 😬 We only had this many customers a couple of times, so most days it was costing me money to open !
Having said all that, I do think it’s lovely for locals to call in for a coffee and a bite to eat while walking the dog, so I’ll have another think about how we can possibly make it work in summer, let me know if you think of anything 🤞
Cakes & Bluebells ice cream will obviously do well through summer so that will still be 12noon to 5pm every day
Shaun 😘
