Dear friends 🤍

Just a little note from us.

From tomorrow, we’ll be moving to our summer opening hours. As many of you will have noticed, the recent heat has made our days a little more challenging, so we’ve decided to shorten our opening hours for the rest of the summer.

We’ll still be opening at the usual times in both Caversham and Henley-on-Thames, but we’ll now be closing at 3pm Monday-Friday.

As a small family business, we’re always trying to find the right balance between looking after our wonderful team, making the business sustainable, and continuing to create the warm, welcoming experience we love sharing with you. Finishing a little earlier each day will also give us the time to work on some exciting things behind the scenes.

Very soon, we’ll be announcing the dates for our much-loved Georgian Feast Nights, introducing new seasonal dishes inspired by the flavours of home, and sharing more about a takeaway project that we’re incredibly excited about.

Our bakers are keeping cool, working hard, and the results speak for themselves. 🥖

We’re open until 3pm in Caversham today.

We would also like to apologise to our Henley customers. Our intention was to reopen on Thursday, but unfortunately the temperatures were simply too high to operate safely without air conditioning. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We’re delighted to say that Henley will be reopening tomorrow (Friday).

P.S. We know some of you still think we outsource our baked goods. We did briefly once in the past while our bakery was being refurbished, but everything is now made in-house in Caversham (apart from our pastéis de nata and Cornish pasties).

We bake fresh daily in small batches in our micro bakery and supply only our two cafés.

We also use only organic flour and a long fermentation process, keeping glyphosate away and giving our breads the flavour and character they deserve.

In the coming days, we’ll be sharing 🇬🇪Georgia’s special connection with wheat, our bakery’s unexpected connection to Midsomer Murders, and why, in Georgia, “it’s time to break bread” is much the same as saying “it’s time for tea”. 🍞☕️

A quick update from us 🌞

With the heatwave continuing, we’ve decided to keep our Henley shop closed on Thursday. Unfortunately, we don’t have air conditioning installed there yet, so we’ll now be reopening on Friday instead of Thursday as originally planned.

Our Caversham shop will be open as usual from 7am, but we’ll be running a shorter day and closing at 3pm. The kitchen will finish service at 2:30pm.

Today we’d like to take a moment to recognise someone who truly embodies community spirit.

Micky is one of those rare people who always seems willing to help when others are facing difficult situations. What stands out most isn’t what he does for a living, but the kind of person he is. Time and again, he has shown kindness, dedication, and a genuine willingness to go above and beyond for others.

A couple of weeks ago, during the heatwave, we found ourselves in a stressful situation when both of our air conditioning units suddenly stopped working. As a small business, this wasn’t just an inconvenience - it put us at risk of significant waste, disruption, and financial loss. By the time we realised how serious the problem was, Micky had already finished work for the day. Yet he still came out late at night to help us. He quickly found the fault, fixed the issue, and quite literally saved us from what could have been a disaster..

What makes this even more special is that this wasn’t a one-off act of kindness. We’ve seen Micky step in to help our colleagues, neighbours and friends during emergency situations too. Whether it’s a business facing a crisis or an individual dealing with an unexpected problem, he treats people with the same care, urgency, and professionalism.

As we face more periods of extreme weather and the challenges that come with them, we’ve been reflecting on how important people like Micky are to our community. He doesn’t just solve problems— he gives people peace of mind when they need it most.

So this isn’t an advertisement. It’s simply a thank you and a recognition of someone who consistently goes above and beyond for others.

Thank you, Micky, for your kindness, your reliability, and for being one of the people who make our community a better place!

Good news for the Henley folk!

As some of you already know, we’ve been closed in Henley for the past week. We’re happy to say that we’ll be reopening as usual from this Saturday.

We’ve got a couple of surprises lined up too, but we won’t let the cat out of the bag just yet — we’ll introduce them as we go!

Thank you again to everyone who checked in and worried that we may have closed permanently. The closure happened unexpectedly, and we honestly weren’t sure when we’d be able to reopen, as some of the issues affecting staffing in the area were out of our hands. We also didn’t want to add to any scaremongering.

Yes, hospitality has been facing challenges for quite some time now, and we’re no strangers to them. But your continued support keeps us going, and in return we’ll always do our very best to deliver the best service and products we can.

And yes… feast first — we can always fight after, if anything!

We've got some great news for our Henley locals! From today, we're re-opening on Mondays and Tuesdays, 8am-4pm ☕️. No more heading to Caversham!
We're still serving up our perfect coffees, fresh-baked treats, and some exciting new additions (with more on the way 👀).
We're stepping back from social media, but we love catching up with you in person.
