After almost 28 years, the time has come for us to hang up our aprons at The Alford Arms. 💛

Running this little pub in its secluded valley in Frithsden — with Ashridge on the doorstep and the Chilterns behind us — has been the privilege of our lives. Thank you for every pint, every long lunch, every celebration and every friendship made.

The very best news? The Alford is in wonderful hands. New custodians Jack and Millie (who bought The Swan Inn, Denham and The Old Queen's Head, Penn from us) plan only to build upon all the special qualities that makes it the place you love — and the whole marvellous team that you know is staying on. The doors stay open as ever.

We know you will give them the same warm welcome you've always given us.

Check out this lovely photo of from over 100 years ago.

Little Manor is a Tudor building on Roman Road in Frithsden, with distinct decorative white plaster panels (pargeting) that dates to 1513.

Historically, the house (pictured here in 1921) has a unique bit of trivia: before county boundary adjustments in the 20th century, the building sat across the border of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, meaning its front door was in one county and its back door in another.

The building underwent a significant restoration in 1879 under the patronage of Lady Marion Alford, who was involved in the management of the nearby Ashridge Estate.

The neighbouring Alford Arms was named in fealty to the Viscount Alford courtesy title held by the lords of the manor and owners of the Ashridge Estate—on whose land the pub sits.

A sad day in the village today as the last cherry tree on the green came down. 🍒
Sadly it was diseased & had become unsafe.
The Parish Council have plans for a replacement, so watch this space.

He’s safe & sound with friends, but we would love to reunite him with his/her family.

There are plans afoot to reclassify green belt land on the edge of Tring as grey belt. This sets a dangerous precedent, not just for Dacorum and the Chilterns National Landscape, but the whole country. Please sign below ⬇️⬇️⬇️
